In this study, we introduce two thiophene-phenylene-thiophene (TPT) polymers designed to leverage noncovalent intramolecular interactions to regulate main-chain conformation and enhance solid-state ordering. By incorporating unsubstituted thiophene (T) or bithiophene (2T) units, we reveal striking divergence in the thermal, morphological, and optoelectronic properties of the resulting films, facilitated by these noncovalent interactions. Using a combination of computational and experimental approaches, we show that annealing yields remarkably different polymer conformations and, consequently, charge transport properties. TPT-T undergoes a significant structural transformation, adopting a more planar backbone conformation and a highly crystalline, edge-on molecular orientation. In contrast, the introduction of a single additional thiophene unit in TPT-2T leads to a more isotropic molecular orientation with a slight preference for face-on alignment, resulting in a heterogeneous film structure that hinders charge transport despite achieving tighter molecular packing. Remarkably, despite being composed of achiral components, TPT-2T develops chirality upon annealing, indicating the formation of a helical conformation. Organic field-effect transistor measurements reveal that the well-ordered alignment in annealed TPT-T films results in higher charge carrier mobility and a narrower distribution of mobility values than in TPT-2T. These findings provide critical insights into the structure−property relationships of conjugated polymers, offering guidance for optimizing molecular design and processing strategies for highperformance organic electronic materials.
Molecular doping of conjugated polymers (CPs) is a key strategy for improving the performance of organic electronics devices, particularly thermoelectrics. Doped donor–acceptor (D–A) conjugated polymers, characterized by a tunable energy gap between the Fermi level and the transport band, show great promise in achieving high electrical conductivity (σ) while preserving a favorable Seebeck coefficient (S). Despite the promising performance enhancement of chemically doped D–A polymers, their thermal stability remains largely underexplored, a crucial consideration for the long-term operation of organic thermoelectric devices. In this study, we investigated the dopant size-dependent thermal stability of a diketopyrrolopyrrole-thiophene (DPP-T) D–A copolymer, utilizing two p-dopants: 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F 4 TCNQ) and Mo(tfd-CO 2 Me) 3 . Temperature-dependent UV–vis–NIR spectroscopy revealed that DPP-T/F 4 TCNQ is more prone to dedoping under a high temperature thermal stress than DPP-T/Mo(tfd-CO 2 Me) 3 . Although the F 4 TCNQ doped polymer shows higher initial in-plane conductivity than its Mo(tfd-CO 2 Me) 3 counterpart, it undergoes a conductivity loss of more than an order of magnitude after annealing at 120 °C for 30 min. In contrast, the in-plane conductivity of DPP-T/Mo(tfd-CO 2 Me) 3 remains stable under the same thermal conditions. Thermogravimetric analysis ruled out dopant sublimation as a primary contributor to dedoping, leading us to attribute the conductivity loss in F 4 TCNQ-doped DPP-T to dopant phase separation and migration. This observation was further confirmed by X-ray scattering studies and nanoscale infrared microscopy and spectroscopy studies. This work could provide further insights into the thermal stability of doped conjugated polymers and suggests that incorporating bulkier dopants is an effective strategy to enhance the thermal robustness of doped DPP-type systems.

Aiming at the development of an efficient NH 3 oxidation catalyst to eliminate the harmful NH 3 slip from the stationary flue gas denitrification system and diesel exhaust aftertreatment system, a facile ZrO 2 doping strategy was proposed to construct Pt 1 /Ce x Zr 1–x O 2 catalysts with a tunable Pt-CeO 2 interaction strength and Pt–O–Ce coordination environment. According to the results of systematic characterizations, Pt species supported on Ce x Zr 1–x O 2 were mainly in the form of single atoms when x ≥ 0.7, and the strength of the Pt-CeO 2 interaction and the coordination number of Pt–O–Ce bond (CN Pt–O–Ce ) on Pt 1 /Ce x Zr 1–x O 2 showed a volcanic change as a function of the ZrO 2 doping amount. Here, it was proposed that the balance between the reasonable concentration of oxygen defects and limited surface Zr–O x species well accounted for the strongest Pt-CeO 2 interaction and the highest CN Pt–O–Ce on Pt/Ce 0.9 Zr 0.1 O 2 . It was observed that the Pt/Ce 0.9 Zr 0.1 O 2 catalyst exhibited much higher NH 3 oxidation activity than other Pt/Ce x Zr 1–x O 2 catalysts. The mechanism study revealed that the Pt 1 species with the stronger Pt-CeO 2 interaction and higher CN Pt–O–Ce within Pt/Ce 0.9 Zr 0.1 O 2 could better activate NH 3 adsorbed on Lewis acid sites to react with O 2 thus resulting in superior NH 3 oxidation activity. This work provides a new approach for designing highly efficient Pt/CeO 2 based catalysts for low-temperature NH 3 oxidation.

The Zintl phase Ca 2 CdSb 2 was found to be dimorphic. Besides the orthorhombic Ca 2 CdSb 2 (-o), here we report on the synthesis, the structural characterization, and the thermoelectric transport properties of its monoclinic form, Ca 2 CdSb 2 (-m), and its Lu-doped variant Ca 2–x Lu x CdSb 2 (x ≈ 0.02). The monoclinic structure exhibits complex structural characteristics and constitutes a new structure type with the non-centrosymmetric space group Cm (Z = 30). The electrical resistivity ρ(T) measured on single crystals of both phases portrays a transition from a semiconductor to a degenerate p-type semiconductor upon doping with Lu and with an attendant change in the Hall carrier concentration nH from 7.15 × 10 18 to 2.30 × 10 19 cm –3 at 300 K. The Seebeck coefficient S(T) of both phases are comparable and indicate a hole-dominated carrier transport mechanism with magnitudes of 133 and 116 μV/K at 600 K for Ca 2 CdSb 2 (-m) and Ca 2–x Lu x CdSb 2 , respectively. The convoluted atomic bonding with an attendant large unit cell volume of ~4365 Å 3 drives a putative low thermal conductivity in these materials resulting in a power factor PF of 1.63 μW/cm K 2 and an estimated thermoelectric figure of merit zT of ~0.5 for Ca 2–x Lu x CdSb 2 at 600 K. Furthermore, differential scanning calorimetry results reveal the stability of these phases up to about 960 K, making them candidates for moderate temperature thermoelectric materials.
Molecular “Chevrel-type” clusters of the formula Co 6 Se 8 L 6 (L = neutral ligand) are a well-studied class of clusters due to their utility as molecular analogues to the Chevrel extended solid phase and their application as subunits in hierarchical materials. However, their solution and optical properties remain relatively underexplored. Aiming to develop the fundamental relationships between the molecular and electronic structures of these clusters and their electrochemical and photophysical properties, this work reports the preparation of a series of Co 6 Se 8 (P(C 6 H 4 R) 3 ) 6 -type clusters with R = Cl (1), F (2), H (3), CH 3 (4), and OCH 3 (5) via a stepwise synthetic approach. Solution and solid-state experimental characterization and density functional theory calculations reveal that the Co 6 Se 8 cores of 1–5 maintain consistent electronic and structural properties despite the variation of the triarylphosphine ligand para-substituent Hammett parameters (σ p ). However, cyclic voltammetry measurements indicate that the electron transfer energetics of 1–5 are strongly influenced by ligand substitution, with the E 1/2 of a given redox event spanning ∼0.5 V depending on the triarylphosphine ligand’s σ p . In conclusion, these findings support the characterization of Co 6 Se 8 clusters as atomically precise nanoclusters with both the structural robustness and the electrochemical tunability needed to act as components in larger charge transfer assemblies.
A set of nine new robust, tunable cerium complexes supported by an ansa-bis(cyclopentadienyl) ligand, [Me 2 Si(η 5 -Cp R ) 2 ]CeX ( an Cp R )CeX, are excellent homogeneous visible-light photocatalysts for the monodefluoroalkylation of trifluorotoluene with Mg(CH 2 C 6 H 5 ) 2 THF 2 (R = Me 4 , SiMe 3 , X = N(SiMe 3 ) 2 (N″), X = CH(SiMe 3 ) 2 (R''), Cl, OC 6 H 2 t Bu 2 -2,6,Me-4 (OAr)). The trends in photocatalytic activity within the series are explained by photophysical spectroscopic analyses. The aryloxide complex [Me 2 Si(Cp SiMe3 ) 2 ]CeOAr, which has the highest activity (95% substrate conversion in 27 h), shows the most negative (most reducing) excited-state reduction potential (-2.71 V vs Fc). The precatalyst excited-state lifetimes are also exceptionally long. Detailed photoluminescence, NMR spectroscopic, and kinetic studies on chloride [Me 2 Si(Cp Me4 ) 2 ]CeCl suggest that the "ate" complex [{Me 2 Si(Cp Me4 ) 2 } 2 Ce III ClBn][MgBn] is the active catalyst in the alkylation reaction to form PhCF 2 CH 2 Ph with high selectivity over PhCF 2 H. Finally, the reaction rates are up to 30 times higher than previously reported for organometallic rare-earth photocatalysts for these Ce complexes and comparable to established Ir-based photoredox systems.
We report the synthesis and characterization of asymmetric sandwich-type complexes [TpU IV EW 11 O 39 ] x– (E = P; x = 4, E = Si; x = 5, Tp = trispyrazolylborate). These complexes represent rare examples of the selective formation of asymmetric actinide-polyoxometalate (An-POM) complexes. Oxidation studies show that the U V analogues are stable and accessible, with both complexes isolated. Attempts to access U VI with this framework yield mixed results. Attempts to produce [TpU VI PW 11 O 39 ] 2– only led to decomposition, while electrochemical oxidation experiments gave evidence of transient formation of [TpU VI SiW 11 O 39 ] 3– in solution. Rapid decomposition of [TpU VI SiW 11 O 39 ] 3– inhibits full characterization. These studies indicate that the redox properties and stability of An-POM complexes containing actinides in higher valencies are dependent on the anionic charge of the assembly.
