Strain transfer in porous multiferroic composites of CoFe 2 O 4 and PbZr x Ti 1- x O 3

This manuscript examines the mechanism of strain-coupling in a multiferroic composite of mesoporous cobalt ferrite (CFO), conformally filled with lead zirconate titanate (PZT). We find that when the composites are electrically poled, remanent strain from the piezoelectric PZT layer can be transferred to the magnetostrictive CFO layer. X-ray diffraction shows that this strain transfer is greatest in the most porous samples, in agreement with magnetometry measurements, which show the greatest change in sample saturation magnetization in the most porous samples. In conclusion, strain analysis shows that porosity both accommodates greater lattice strain and mitigates the effects of substrate clamping in thin film strain-coupled composites.

Modification of the MTS model for high strain-rate behavior of TI-6AL-4V

The Mechanical Threshold Stress (MTS) model provides excellent predictive capabilities for the material constitutive response for a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. However, the MTS model fails to capture the rapidly increasing yield stress at high strain rate behavior as the deformation controlling mechanism transitions from thermal activation to drag mechanisms, only capturing the linear behavior. Further, the model typically over predicts the flow stress behavior at yield and post yield due to its use of a constant work hardening rate parameter derived from the stress–strain response at constant saturation stress. An alternative approach to fitting portions of the MTS model is investigated and mathematical models are developed to address these issues. The results show that with appropriate experimental data, the mechanical threshold stress and work hardening rate parameters within the MTS model can quite easily and accurately be modified to extend applicability to high strain rate behavior and more accurately model the initial flow stress behavior at early work hardening rates without modification of the functions core to the MTS model itself.

Confinement of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene Nanosheets within a Polymer Matrix via In-situ Polymerization and Deposition on Carbon Cloth for Supercapacitors

Here, with the promising preliminary electrochemical performance, further investigation into polymer-filler interfacial regulation and confined ion transport in the CC/polymer/MXene system could provide deeper insights, paving the way for its application in flexible supercapacitors and other energy storage devices requiring highly adaptable electrodes.

First identification of resonant states in the {sup 45}V(p, {gamma}){sup 46}Cr reaction and their influence on the production of {sup 44}Ti in Core Collapse Supernovae

The observation of active 44Ti in supernova remnants offers the potential to solve one of the most debated questions in modern astrophysics, the exact underlying explosion mechanism of core collapse supernovae (CCSNe). In particular, a comparison between the predicted synthesized yield of 44Ti and the ejected flux is expected to allow for a determination of the mass cut of the star. Unfortunately, such comparisons are currently severely hindered by large uncertainties in the nuclear reactions governing the production and destruction of 44Ti. On this note, the astrophysical 45Vðp; γÞ46Cr reaction is expected to play a decisive role. We present the first experimental information on resonant states in the 45Vðp; γÞ46Cr reaction. Excitation energies have been measured with high precision for ten previously unknown, low-spin, proton-unbound states in 46Cr, and spin-parity-assignment constraints have been made using observed γ-decay patterns and shell-model calculations. We find that an l ¼ 1 resonance at 714 keV dominates the 45Vðp; γÞ46Cr reaction for the entire temperature range of α-rich freezeout. Moreover, the nominal rate is found to be ∼25–50% of previous estimates for T > 1.2 GK, indicating an increase in 44Ti production in CCSNe of ∼20–35%.
