Integrated circuit random-access memory decoder

Decoder circuit with complementary-symmetry circuit configuration composed of MOS and n-p-n bipolar devices minimizes power consumption. Emitter-follower drive scheme results in low power dissipation and high speed operation.

Magnetospheric access of solar particles and the configuration of the distant geomagnetic field, volume 2

A summary is provided of all proton events observed with OGO/4 and observed flux profiles for several events. Pertinent data are indicated relating to the orientation of the interplanetary magnetic field. The events whose profiles are presented are divided into three classes: EDP events (normally associated with co-rotating features), solar flare events, and events having characteristics of both EDP events and flare events (class C events). A description of these classes of events and the criteria used to distinguish between EDP events and flare events are discussed. In addition, the 1 December 1967 EDP event and the 2 November 1967 solar flare event are discussed in some detail. Accompanying the profiles of each event is a brief list of notable observational features of the event. Events are presented chronologically.

Flexible format, computer accessed telemetry system

With this system, it is possible to sample and generate two or more simultaneous formats; one can be transmitted to ground station in real time, and other is stored for later transmission. Sensor output comparison data, plus information to control format, compression algorithm, and allowable degree of sensor activity, are stored in memory.

Tool for installing or extracting small bulbs in limited-access spaces

Installing and extracting component of tool is plastic tubing with inside diameter which provides snug fit over bulb. Other components, which provide sturdiness and ease of operation, consist of metal tube, with collar near one end, and plunger, with knob on one end and Teflon tip on the other.

Access of solar protons to the earth's polar caps.

Energetic solar proton observations in the interplanetary medium by Explorer 33 and Explorer 35 and over the polar caps by Injun 5 during the period from September 1968 through March 1970 have been examined in detail. The solar proton intensities observed over the polar regions were compared with the interplanetary intensities on an absolute basis. The high polar latitude (HPL) proton intensities tracked the magnetic field aligned interplanetary intensities well (solar-antisolar intensities as determined from the sectored Explorer data). The tracking was in agreement with the open magnetosphere model about 90% of the time - i.e., the intensities observed on the HPL magnetic lines of force, which would be connected to magnetic lines of force from the sun in an interconnected geomagnetic and interplanetary magnetic field, were in agreement with the maximum intensity of the interplanetary proton pitch angle distribution. The intensities observed at the HPL region of the opposite polar cap were in agreement with the minimum intensity of the interplanetary pitch angle distribution. The low polar latitude intensities generally tracked the maximum interplanetary intensity very well.

Accessing technical data bases using STDS: A collection of scenarios

A line by line description is given of sessions using the set-theoretic data system (STDS) to interact with technical data bases. The data bases contain data from actual applications at NASA Langley Research Center. The report is meant to be a tutorial document that accompanies set processing in a network environment.

Man-Computer Interactive Data Access System (McIDAS). Continued development of McIDAS and operation in the GARP Atlantic tropical experiment

The complete output of the Synchronous Meteorological Satellite was recorded on one inch magnetic tape. A quality control subsystem tests cloud track vectors against four sets of criteria: (1) rejection if best match occurs on correlation boundary; (2) rejection if major correlation peak is not distinct and significantly greater than secondary peak; (3) rejection if correlation is not persistent; and (4) rejection if acceleration is too great. A cloud height program determines cloud optical thickness from visible data and computer infrared emissivity. From infrared data and temperature profile, cloud height is determined. A functional description and electronic schematics of equipment are given.
