Systems and methods for nano-tribological manufacturing of nanostructures

The presently disclosed subject matter provides systems and methods for generating nanostructures from tribological films. A probe tip can be immersed in a liquid mixture comprising a plurality of ink particles suspended in a medium. A substrate on which the tribological film is to be generated can also be immersed in the liquid mixture. A processor controlling movement of the probe tip can be configured to cause the probe tip to slide along the substrate in a shape of a desired pattern of the nanostructure with a contact force to cause one or more ink particles of the plurality of ink particles compressed underneath the probe tip to be transformed into a tribological film onto the substrate in the shape of the desired pattern of the nanostructure.

Beam controlled nano-robotic device

A system and method (referred to as a method) to fabricate nanorobots. The method generates a pixel map of an atomic object and identifies portions of the atomic object that form a nanorobot. The method stores those identifications in a memory. The method adjusts an electron beam to a noninvasive operating level and images the portions of the atomic object that form the nanorobot. The method executes a plurality of scanning profiles by the electron beam to form the nanorobot and detects nanorobot characteristics and their surroundings via the electron beam in response to executing the plurality of scanning profiles.

Recent advances in nano-scale spatial resolution x-ray microscopy instrumentation at NSLS-II

X-ray microscopy is an invaluable and powerful characterization tool applied in many scientific fields, such as materials science, biology, environmental science, and energy research. In recent years it has been driven by rapid developments of novel technologies and systems resulting in imaging experiments elucidating structural inhomogeneities and chemical reactions at the nanometer scale. To obtain high spatial resolution comprehensive chemical and structural information, an X-ray microscope must be equipped with adequate capabilities and allow for simultaneous acquisition of multiple datasets. In recent years, a number of X-ray microscopes have been designed, constructed, and commissioned at NSLS-II. Here we provide an overview of the microscopy instrumentation development program at NSLS-II and specifically focus on the multilayer Laue lens-based hard X-ray nanoprobe optimized for ~10 nm spatial resolution imaging, its current status, and future upgrades along with recently constructed Kirkpatrick-Baez based scanning microscope designed for ~100 nm spatial resolution experiments.
