Optimization of C. ljungdahlii for the Valorization of Combustion Off-Gas
One of the largest problems that faces the realization of the circular economy is the gap between waste streams and usable commodities. Synthetic biology enables a toolkit where this gap can begin to be addressed and closed. This work focuses on using synthetic biology techniques to optimize C. ljungdahlii for the valorization of combustion off-gas waste streams and navigates how to produce 3-hydroxybutyrate, a polymer precursor off of similar-composition syn-gas streams. If successful, these techniques can realize a carbon-negative solution to producing plastics.
