Central alarm station interface for situation awareness

A method for analyzing security alarms is provided. The method comprising receiving alarm data from a number of security sensors generating alarms, wherein the alarm data includes spatio-temporal data regarding where and when an alarm is triggered. The alarm data is displayed on a user interface. The alarm data is analyzed for spatio-temporal relationships among the alarms according to a number of pattern recognition algorithms. The alarms are identified as genuine alarms if a discernable pattern is recognized among the alarms.

A measurement of the mean central optical depth of galaxy clusters via the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect with SPT-3G and DES

We infer the mean optical depth of a sample of optically-selected galaxy clusters from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) via the pairwise kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect. The pairwise kSZ signal between pairs of clusters drawn from the DES Year-3 cluster catalog is detected at $4.1 \sigma$ in cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature maps from two years of observations with the SPT-3G camera on the South Pole Telescope. After cuts, there are 24,580 clusters in the $\sim 1,400$ deg$^2$ of the southern sky observed by both experiments. We infer the mean optical depth of the cluster sample with two techniques. The optical depth inferred from the pairwise kSZ signal is $\bar{\tau}_e = (2.97 \pm 0.73) \times 10^{-3}$, while that inferred from the thermal SZ signal is $\bar{\tau}_e = (2.51 \pm 0.55) \times 10^{-3}$. The two measures agree at $0.6 \sigma$. We perform a suite of systematic checks to test the robustness of the analysis.

Enforcing central processing unit quality of service guarantees when servicing accelerator requests

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for enforcing processor quality of service guarantees when servicing system service requests (SSRs) are disclosed. A system includes a first processor executing an operating system and a second processor executing an application which generates SSRs for the first processor to service. The first processor monitors the number of cycles spent servicing SSRs over a previous time interval, and if this number of cycles is above a threshold, the first processor starts delaying the servicing of subsequent SSRs. In one implementation, if the previous delay was non-zero, the first processor increases the delay used in the servicing of subsequent SSRs. If the number of cycles is less than or equal to the threshold, then the first processor services SSRs without delay. As the delay is increased, the second processor begins to stall and its SSR generation rate falls, reducing the load on the first processor.

Godiva IV Central Cavity Neutron Environment Characterization with Threshold Neutron Detectors

Godiva IV is a cylindrical fast burst reactor comprised of approximately 65 kg of highly enriched uranium that is operated by Los Alamos National Laboratory and sited at the National Criticality Experiments Research Center at the Nevada National Security Site in Nevada in the United States. Godiva IV is typically operated at delayed critical and in the regime spanning from sub-prompt to super-prompt bursts. Godiva IV is used for sample irradiations, criticality safety demonstrations, dosimetry studies, and for studying super-prompt behavior. In preparation for both an upcoming experiment to reduce uncertainties in the prompt fission spectrum for 235 U using threshold neutron detectors, and for future research using Godiva IV, it was desired to exercise the process of the selection of threshold neutron detectors/activation foils, radiation metrology, and the subsequent adjustment of the neutron spectrum. For this exercise, nine high purity threshold neutron detectors/activation foils were irradiated in a Godiva IV burst. The foils were then analyzed using a high purity germanium detector in the NCERC counting laboratory to determine end of irradiation specific activities for available IRDFF-II reactions. This work summarizes the Godiva IV foil irradiation, radiation metrology results, and adjusted neutron spectrum. The results of this exercise ultimately characterized the neutron environment inside the sample irradiation cavity inside Godiva IV to a higher degree than previously performed, informed decisions for the upcoming larger scale experiment, and will inform future neutron spectrum characterizations at NCERC.
