Lista de Verificacion Antes de la Tormenta: Sistemas Solares Fotovoltaicos (PV) Montados en el Suelo

Through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has used subject matter experts to compile a set of checklists to help Puerto Rico and other communities prepare for storms. Renewable energy and distributed energy systems have the potential to provide power to neighborhoods, vulnerable residents, and certain facilities within a community, if those systems are designed to provide power during a grid disruption. The storm-hardening checklists provide storm preparation actions that can increase the chances that solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are available when communities need them most. This resource was translated from English to Spanish for greater acessibility.

Guia de Edificios Saludables para Pequenas Empresas: Una Referencia Rapida para Mejorar la Calidad del Aire Interior (Restaurantes Excluidos)

Indoor air pollutant concentrations can be higher than those outdoors, putting occupants at risk. These pollutants come from a variety of sources: materials used to build and furnish indoor spaces, retail products and services, and occupants themselves. Ventilation, temperature, and humidity also affect indoor air quality. It is important to consider the documented benefits of healthy indoor environments at any time - not just during a public health crisis - and it is key to consider the indoor air quality where we do business as well as at home. Small businesses vary in size, services, products, ownership style, and building mechanical systems, yet all benefit from healthy indoor spaces for employees and customers. This guide provides steps, in conjunction with public health guidance, that small businesses can take to improve and maintain indoor air quality. Small businesses often have unique ownership structures - the building owner and business owner can be different parties - so this guide addresses both building and business owner action items. There are many ways to pursue healthy indoor air, including eliminating, minimizing, and/or controlling the contaminants we bring in, and removing or diluting any existing contaminants through ventilation, filtration, air cleaning, and/or disinfection. Best results are achieved through a comprehensive approach combining various strategies, including those discussed in this guide.

La Jerarquia de Mitigacion (Spanish)

The mitigation hierarchy is a widely used framework to inform conservation decisions. The hierarchy offers a structured set of steps for how projects can lessen negative impacts or lead to an increase in biodiversity. In its simplest form, the mitigation hierarchy includes three stages: (1) avoid creating impacts from the outset, (2) minimize the impacts that cannot be avoided, and (3) compensate for or offset the impacts that cannot be minimized. Proper application of the hierarchy should decrease impacts of the project over time, such that most of the impact is alleviated through avoidance, leaving a modest amount remaining to minimize, and only a residual to compensate. In practice, avoidance should be prioritized and can be a cost-effective means of mitigation. Whereas compensation should be considered the lowest priority and should only be applied in situations in which the previous mitigation steps were unable to fully alleviate undesirable impacts. This is the Spanish translation of NREL/FS-5000-85363, "The Mitigation Hierarchy."

Increasing Electric Vehicle Adoption Among Disadvantaged Populations: A Case Study in LA

In the shift towards 100% carbon-free energy, ensuring equitable access to clean energy benefits is crucial. The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), particularly in the personal light-duty vehicle segment, has gained traction, driven by various incentives at the federal, state, and local levels. However, disadvantaged populations face unique challenges in embracing EVs. This paper, using Los Angeles as a case study, explores EV adoption patterns among disadvantaged population groups in both a business-as-usual scenario and an equity scenario. Modeling reveals that by 2035, over half of EV owners will be from low- to middle income backgrounds with limited access to home charging. Strategies such as increasing incentives for used EV purchase from $2500 to $4000, targeted for disadvantaged communities, can boost EV adoption among low-middle income groups by 2%, while providing a $300 annual voucher to households using public charging can further facilitate equitable EV adoption.
