The 30 P(p,γ) 31 S reaction plays an important role in understanding the nucleosynthesis of A ≥ 30 nuclides in oxygen-neon novae. The Gaseous Detector with Germanium Tagging was used to measure 31 Cl β-delayed proton decay through the key J π = 3/2 + , 260-keV resonance. The intensity $I$$^{260}_{βp}$ = $8.3$$^{+1.2}_{–0.9}$ × 10 –6 represents the weakest β-delayed, charged-particle emission ever measured below 400 keV, resulting in a proton branching ratio of Γ p /Γ = $2.5$$^{+0.4}_{–0.3}$ × 10 –4 . Here, by combining this measurement with shell-model calculations for Γγ and past work on other resonances, the total 30 P(p,γ) 31 S rate has been determined with reduced uncertainty. The new rate has been used in hydrodynamic simulations to model the composition of nova ejecta, leading to a concrete prediction of 30 Si: 28 Si excesses in presolar nova grains and the calibration of nuclear thermometers.
Here, the electroweak interaction in the standard model is described by a pure vector-axial-vector structure, though any Lorentz-invariant component could contribute. In this Letter, we present the most precise measurement of tensor currents in the low-energy regime by examining the $β-\bar{ν}$ correlation of trapped 8 Li ions with the Beta-decay Paul Trap. We find $a_{β\barν}$ = - 0.3325 ± 0.0013 stat ± 0.0019 syst at 1σ for the case of coupling to right-handed neutrinos (C T = -C$^{'}_{T}$), which is consistent with the standard model prediction.
We construct an effective field theory of a two-neutron halo nucleus in the limit where the two-neutron separation energy B and the neutron-neutron two-body virtual energy ε n are smaller than any other energy scale in the problem, but the scattering between the core and a single neutron is not fine-tuned, and the Efimov effect does not operate. The theory has one dimensionless coupling which formally runs to a Landau pole in the ultraviolet. We show that many properties of the system are universal in the double fine-tuning limit. The ratio of the mean-square matter radius and charge radius is found to be < r$^{2}_{m}$ > / < r$^{2}_{c}$ > = Af(ε n /B), where A is the mass number of the core and f is a function of the ratio ε n / B which we find explicitly. In particular, when B >> ε n , < r$^{2}_{m}$ > / < r$^{2}_{c}$ > = 2/3 A . Here, the shape of the E1 dipole strength function also depends only on the ratio ε n /B and is derived in explicit analytic form. We estimate that for the 22 C nucleus higher-order corrections to our theory are of the order of 20% or less if the two-neutron separation energy is less than 100 keV and the s-wave scattering length between a neutron and a 20 C nucleus is less than 2.8 fm.
We present results from a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation of e + e − → Z H in the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT) framework, including all contributions from dimension-six operators. At NLO, there are novel dependencies on CP violating parameters in the gauge sector, on modifications to the Higgs boson self-couplings, on alterations to the top quark Yukawa couplings, and on four-fermion operators involving the electron and the top quark, among others. We show that including only the logarithms resulting from renormalization group scaling can produce misleading results, and further, we explicitly demonstrate the constraining power of combining measurements from different energy scales. Mitigating ancilla-mediated error channels is a critical challenge in controlling high-quality superconducting cavities using circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED). We address this by weakening the dispersive coupling while demonstrating fast, high-fidelity multimode control through transmon-mediated sideband interactions. We implement transmon-cavity SWAP gates with speeds up to 30 times larger than the bare dispersive coupling. Combined with transmon rotations, this enables universal state preparation in a single mode, though achieving unitary gates and extending control to multiple modes remains a challenge. In this work, we overcome this limitation by introducing two control strategies: (i) a shelving technique that stores populations in sideband-transparent states, and (ii) a method that exploits the dispersive shift to implement photon-number-selective transmon-cavity SWAP gates. We use these protocols to prepare Fock and binomial code states across any of the ten modes of a multimode cavity with millisecond coherence times—serving as a multimode quantum memory. We demonstrate unitaries that encode and decode an arbitrary qubit state from the transmon into corresponding vacuum and Fock state superpositions, as well as entangled NOON states of cavity mode pairs—a scheme extendable to arbitrary multimode Fock encodings in the cavity modes. Furthermore, we implement a new binomial encoding gate that converts arbitrary transmon superpositions into binomial code states in any cavity mode at a rate exceeding the dispersive shifts in our system, achieving an average post-selected state fidelity of 96.3% in a 4 μs gate time. By using precalibrated transmon and sideband pulses, our work demonstrates multimode control with significantly reduced calibration overhead, enabling efficient unitary operations using sideband interactions in multimode cQED systems.

We derive new analytical solutions for the non-affine Johnson-Segalman/Gordon-Schowalter (JS/GS) constitutive equation with a general relaxation kernel in medium-amplitude oscillatory shear (MAOS) deformation. The results show time-strain separable (TSS) nonlinearity, therefore providing new physically-meaningful interpretation to the heuristic TSS nonlinear parameter in MAOS. The upper-convected, lower-convected, and corotational Maxwell models are all subsets of the results presented here. The model assumes that the microscale elements causing stress in the material slip compared to the continuum deformation. We introduce a visualization of the non-affine deformation field that acts on stress-generating elements to reinforce the hysical interpretation of the JS/GS class of models. Lastly, a case study is presented where previously published results, from fitting TSS models to MAOS data, can be re-interpreted based on the concept of non-affine motion of the JS/GS framework.
