Measurements of higher-order cumulants of multiplicity and net-electric charge distributions in inelastic proton-proton interactions by NA61/SHINE

This paper presents the energy dependence of multiplicity and net-electric charge fluctuations in p+p interactions at beam momenta 20, 31, 40, 80, and 158 \(\text{ Ge }\hspace{-1.00006pt}\text{ V }\!/\!c\). Results are corrected for the experimental biases and quantified with the use of cumulants and factorial cumulants. Cumulant ratios are an essential tool in the search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter in heavy ion collisions. Measurements performed in p+p interactions provide a vital baseline estimation in these studies. The measured signals are compared with the string hadronic models Epos1.99 and FTFP-BERT.

Erratum to: Measurements of higher-order cumulants of multiplicity and net-electric charge distributions in inelastic proton-proton interactions by NA61/SHINE

This Erratum replaces, due to a discovery of coding mistakes, the following quantities: κ 3 /κ 1 of the h + − h − distribution presented in Fig. 6 and Table 6, κ 4 listed in Table 4, and $\hat{C}$ 4 presented in Fig. 7 and Table 5. All mentioned figures and tables were updated.

High-energy inelastic neutron scattering data taken at the SEQUOIA spectrometer.

INS measurements were performed using the Fine Resolution Chopper Spectrometer SEQUOIA at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A powder sample of SrCoGe2O6 was loaded in an aluminum can for the measurements and a CCR was used to cool the sample down to 6 K. Data were collected using fixed incident neutron energies of 100 and 30 meV.

Low energy inelastic neutron scattering (INS) data of SrCoGe2O6 taken at CNCS chopper spectrometer.

INS measurements were performed using the Cold Neutron Chopper Spectrometer CNCS at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A powder sample of SrCoGe2O6 was loaded in an aluminum can for the measurements and a standard orange cryostat was used to cover the temperature region from 1.7 K to 100 K. Data were collected using fixed incident neutron energy of 5.0 meV.

Investigation into the transport properties of planetary interiors through inelastic X-ray scattering experiments and quantum molecular dynamics (Final Technical Report)

This was a two-year research project for the period 08/15/2018 - 08/14/2020 conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno using Pronghorn, a newly built high-performance cluster located at the University. The short-term project goal was to provide computational support for the experimental campaigns at LCLS through data analysis of previous and upcoming scheduled experiments, along with performing state-of-the-art atomistic simulations of dense plasmas. The longer-term goal was to create a new computational high energy density physics group located at the University of Nevada, Reno. Guided by results from past and future high-resolution scattering experiments, we aimed to research and develop non-equilibrium and non-adiabatic atomistic simulations of dense plasmas that went beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation

Advancements in Validation of TSLs through Inelastic Neutron Scattering and Transmission Measurements [Slides]

This presentation finds that INS measurements are not as variable based on sample composition, because phonon spectra is a properly of the bulk material. Additionally, INS and transmission measurements are and should be the most significant part of TSL validation, as they are the fundamental quantities used by Monte Carlo neutronics codes. Relaying solely on theoretical atomistic calculations for TSL evaluation is not enough, they are highly dependent on inter-atomic potentials (which are not the most accurate depending on the quantity trying to be reproduced) and evaluators knowledge and understanding of the material being studied. When dealing with Crit. benchmarks - While extremely useful for validation of nuclear data at all energies, critical benchmarks are not the best tool to provide a definitive answer on conflicting TSLs. Finally, INS and transmission measurements need to be the basis of validation of TSLs.

A Multiscale Inelastic Internal State Variable Corrosion Model

We present a corrosion internal state variable (ISV) damage model based upon the integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) hierarchical multiscale paradigm. Structure–property experiments for magnesium alloys were used where the only inputs were the volume fractions of each element of the periodic table. This macroscale ISV corrosion model finds its basis in Horstemeyer’s mechanical damage model, which includes three separate ISVs for damage nucleation, growth, and coalescence, as well as Walton’s inclusion of corrosion, which introduces five new ISVs for pit nucleation, growth, and coalescence, along with general corrosion and intergranular corrosion. While Walton’s corrosion ISVs are phenomenological in nature, herein we develop a multiscale physical basis for the corrosion ISVs. The parameters for the macroscale corrosion ISVs were garnered from the mesoscale Butler–Volmer equations. Pure magnesium with differing amounts of aluminum were used in corrosion tests to exemplify the different pitting, general corrosion, and intergranular corrosion rates, and the macroscale ISV model was calibrated with said data, in which the only inputs to the model are the volume percentages of the elements magnesium and aluminum. Although magnesium alloys were used to motivate and calibrate the model, the model is abstract enough to possibly capture other material systems as well.
