Resolving the ($\mathscr{g}$-2)$_μ$ discrepancy with $\mathcal{F}$–SU(5) intersecting D-branes

A discrepancy between the measured anomalous magnetic moment of the muon (g - 2) μ and computed Standard Model value now stands at a combined 4.2σ following experiments at Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL). A solution to the disagreement is uncovered in flipped SU(5) with additional TeV-Scale vector-like 10 +$\bar{10}$ multiplets and charged singlet derived from local F-Theory, collectively referred to as $\mathcal {F}$-SU(5). Here we engage general No-Scale supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking in $\mathcal {F}$-SU(5) D-brane model building to alleviate the (g-2)μ. tension between the Standard Model and observations. A robust Δa μ (SUSY) is realized via mixing of M 5 and M 1X at the secondary SU(5) x U(1) X unification scale in $\mathcal {F}$-SU(5) emanating from SU(5) breaking and U(1) X flux effects. Calculations unveil Δa μ (SUSY) = 19.0-22.3 x 10 -10 for gluino masses of M($\tilde{g}$ = 2.25-2.56 TeV nd higgsino dark matter, aptly residing within the BNL+FNAL 1σ mean. This (g – 2)μ favorable region of the model space also generates the correct light Higgs boson mass and branching ratios of companion rare decay processes, and is further consistent with all LHC Run 2 constraints. Finally, we also examine the heavy SUSY Higgs boson in light of recent LHC searches for an extended Higgs sector.

Primordial black holes as dark matter through Higgs field criticality

In this work, we study the dynamics of a spectator Higgs field which stochastically evolves during inflation onto near-critical trajectories on the edge of a runaway instability. We show that its fluctuations do not produce primordial black holes in sufficient abundance to be the dark matter, nor do they produce significant second-order gravitational waves. First we show that the Higgs produces larger fluctuations on cosmic microwave background scales than on primordial black hole (PBH) scales, itself a no go for a viable PBH scenario. Then we track the superhorizon perturbations nonlinearly through reheating using the $δ\textit{N}$ formalism to show that they are not converted to large curvature fluctuations. Our conclusions hold regardless of any fine-tuning of the Higgs field for both the Standard Model Higgs and Higgs potentials modified to prevent unbounded runaway.

Exploring the universality of hadronic jet classification

The modeling of jet substructure significantly differs between Parton Shower Monte Carlo (PSMC) programs. Despite this, we observe that machine learning classifiers trained on different PSMCs learn nearly the same function. This means that when these classifiers are applied to the same PSMC for testing, they result in nearly the same performance. This classifier universality indicates that a machine learning model trained on one simulation and tested on another simulation (or data) will likely be optimal. Our observations are based on detailed studies of shallow and deep neural networks applied to simulated Lorentz boosted Higgs jet tagging at the LHC.

New nonrenormalization theorem from UV/IR mixing

In this paper, we prove a new nonrenormalization theorem which arises from UV/IR mixing. This theorem and its corollaries are relevant for all four-dimensional perturbative tachyon-free closed string theories which can be realized from higher-dimensional theories via geometric compactifications. As such, our theorem therefore holds regardless of the presence or absence of spacetime supersymmetry and regardless of the gauge symmetries or matter content involved. This theorem resolves a hidden clash between modular invariance and the process of decompactification, and enables us to uncover a number of surprising phenomenological properties of these theories. Chief among these is the fact that certain physical quantities within such theories cannot exhibit logarithmic or power-law running and instead enter an effective fixed-point regime above the compactification scale. This cessation of running occurs as the result of the UV/IR mixing inherent in the theory. These effects apply not only for gauge couplings but also for the Higgs mass and other quantities of phenomenological interest, thereby eliminating the logarithmic and/or power-law running that might have otherwise appeared for such quantities. These results illustrate the power of UV/IR mixing to tame divergences—even without supersymmetry—and reinforce the notion that UV/IR mixing may play a vital role in resolving hierarchy problems without supersymmetry. AdS Higgs mechanism from double trace deformed CFT

Explicit breaking of a global symmetry in a conformal field theory is holographically dual to giving mass to a gauge field living in AdS via the Higgs mechanism. We show that if this breaking is induced via a double trace deformation the Higgs mechanism is induced via a scalar loop diagram. The mass can be calculated analytically in both bulk and field theory and we find perfect agreement. While representing familiar physics, the mechanism is identical to how the graviton picks up a mass in the holographic dual of a conformal field theory coupled to a bath.

Hint of a new scalar interaction in LHCb data?

Abstract We explain recent LHCb measurements of the lepton universality ratios, $$R_{D^{(*)}}^{\tau /\ell }\equiv \frac{\mathcal {B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^{(*)+} \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_\tau )}{\mathcal {B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^{(*)+}\ell ^- \bar{\nu }_\ell )}$$ R D ( ∗ ) τ / ℓ ≡ B ( B ¯ → D ( ∗ ) + τ - ν ¯ τ ) B ( B ¯ → D ( ∗ ) + ℓ - ν ¯ ℓ ) and $${R(\Lambda _c^+)}^{\tau /\ell } \equiv \frac{\mathcal {B}(\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_{\tau })}{\mathcal {B}(\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \ell ^- \bar{\nu }_{\ell })}$$ R ( Λ c + ) τ / ℓ ≡ B ( Λ b → Λ c + τ - ν ¯ τ ) B ( Λ b → Λ c + ℓ - ν ¯ ℓ ) with $$\ell =\mu $$ ℓ = μ , via new physics that affects $$R_D^{\tau /\ell }$$ R D τ / ℓ and $$R(\Lambda _c^+)^{\tau /\ell }$$ R ( Λ c + ) τ / ℓ but not $$R_{D^*}^{\tau /\ell }$$ R D ∗ τ / ℓ . The scalar operator in the effective theory for new physics is indicated. We find that the forward-backward asymmetry and $$\tau $$ τ polarization in $$\bar{B} \rightarrow D^+ \tau ^{-} \bar{\nu }_{\tau }$$ B ¯ → D + τ - ν ¯ τ and $$\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_{\tau }$$ Λ b → Λ c + τ - ν ¯ τ decays are significantly affected by the scalar interaction. We construct a simple two Higgs doublet model as a realization of our scenario and consider lepton universality in semileptonic charm and top decays, radiative B decay, B -mixing, and $$Z \rightarrow b \bar{b}$$ Z → b b ¯ .

Gravity-improved metastability bounds for the Type-I seesaw mechanism

Right-handed neutrinos (RHN) destabilize the electroweak vacuum by increasing its decay rate. In the SM, the latter is dominated by physics at the RG scale at which λ reaches its minimum, ${\mu}_{\ast}^{\textrm{SM}}$ ~10 17 GeV. For large neutrino Yukawa coupling Y ν , RHNs can push μ* beyond the Planck scale, implying that gravitational effects need to be taken into account. In this work, we perform the first comprehensive study of electroweak vacuum metastability in the type-I seesaw mechanism including these effects. Our analysis covers both low- and high-scale seesaw models, with two as well as three RHNs and for multiple values of the Higgs’ non-minimal coupling to gravity. We find that gravitational effects can significantly stabilize the vacuum, leading to weaker metastability bounds. We show that metastability sets the strongest bounds for low-scale seesaws with M N > 1 TeV. For high-scale seesaws, we find upper bounds on the allowed masses for the RHNs, which are relevant for high-scale leptogenesis. We also point out that Tr(${Y}_{\nu}^{\dagger}$Y ν ), which is commonly used to express these metastability bounds, cannot be used for all of parameter space. Instead, we argue that bounds can always be expressed reliably through Tr(${Y}_{\nu}^{\dagger}$Y ν ${Y}_{\nu}^{\dagger}$Y ν ). Lastly, we use this insight to develop a new technique for an easier RG analysis applicable to scenarios with degenerate RHN masses.
