Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) data from the University of New Hampshire Atlantic Marine Energy Center (UNH-AMEC ) Tidal Energy Test Site during a Perigean Spring Tide
The ADV measurements contained in this submission were taken on the floating turbine deployment platform (TDP) located at the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, NH. The measurements were conducted 11/4/2021-11/9/2021 with the fastest currents occurring on 11/7/2021. Along with the submission of ADV data, a .ppt and text document further explaining the ADV deployment location is included.
Spring 2020 Dissertation Update [Slides]
An update is provided on the dissertation underway and what has been learned thus far. Work thus far: Developed analytic models for each region in the spent fuel cask – Used to identify and explain physical processes which create features in detailed casks; Developed simplified computational models to identify details not seen in analytic models; SC were calculated in the fuel region; The difference in SC’s between the analytic model and the simplified computational model were identified. Outstanding issues: Analysis of analytic models in stainless steel and carbon steel – These materials are thin and have few features (just the slope); Discrepancies between absorption SC’s in fuel; Create a test problem to show the effects of the high energy resonances in the fuel region. Future Work: Sensitivity analysis needs to be continued through the cask – The detailed model will be added to the remaining materials; Sensitivity analysis paper; and, Addressing outstanding issues.
MST e-News (Spring 2021)
It has been a year of managing our work and deliverables while working to mitigate for the COVID hazard. I am pleased to say that because of your hard work, we have been able to achieve many of our deliverables, while learning how to adjust our work for COVID best practices. I know it hasn’t been easy and all of us are tired, but vaccines are starting to be distributed, at an enhanced cadence both by the State and the Lab. And I think this will help as we consider our future.

Report for LANSCE Futures Spring 2021 Workshop Series
The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) has a long and successful history of delivering high-impact science for NNSA missions. The breadth of science LANSCE delivers is enabled by a unique combination of beam power, flexibility, and authorization basis. Though LANSCE is entering its 50th year of operations, current plans for the stockpile require LANSCE capabilities beyond 2050. These requirements demand a technical conversation about the accelerator and the long-term scientific vision for the facility, so we convened a set of workshops to initiate that conversation. The LANSCE Futures workshops spanned three capability areas of LANSCE: dynamic radiography, scattering science, and nuclear science. Participants included the relevant experts from the programs sponsoring LANSCE, the experimentalists utilizing the end-stations, and accelerator systems experts. A final workshop combined the three focus areas to begin the conversation about capabilities that could meet future mission needs.
MST e-News Spring 2022
For Jeremy Mitchell, a scientific career grounded in a passion for geology has morphed into a decades-long fascination with plutonium. Just as a geologist investigates a rock’s structure and its history to unlock its secrets, so too does Mitchell gather facts and weigh evidence to crack the code of a material not readily accessible to most scientists—and at the core of the Lab’s national security mission.
Spring 2022 update on the status of the Local Wavenumber Model (LWN) in xRAGE
An updated implementation of the Local Wavenumber Model (LWN) is discussed, primarily differing from recent versions by placing a greater focus on capturing a wide variety of turbulent flows including compressible flows. New models are introduced for spectral backscatter effects, the effect of bulk compression on the spectra, and incorporating the multispecies variables tracked in BHR4. Methods for reducing the compurational expense of tracking spectra for turbulent quantites are also investigated. Like recent versions of BHR, we test LWN in a number of canonical flows using a single set of coefficients, but additional coefficient tuning is likely to be required to improve the agreement with some of these flows.
Crosslinked Anionic Exchange Membranes (Spring Quarter Report)
With ever growing climate concerns, studying and optimizing hydrogen gas electrolyzers and fuel cells are of high importance. Polymeric anionic exchange membranes (AEM) are attractive replacements to the industry standard proton exchange membranes (PEM) due to their lack of precious metal catalysts and acidic conditions. However, AEMs on the market have yet to preform comparatively to PEMs. To bring AEMs to a competitive level, crosslinking chemistry within the polymer membranes is being investigated to enhance mechanical properties and performance. For this quarter, electrochemical systems, important AEM properties and considerations, and some characterization methods will be reviewed.

Spring 2023 Verification Presentation to Headquarters [Slides]
Testing codes is important, and more tests are needed. Verification testing is different than software-quality assurance, like regression suites. Tests should be simple, but not too simple, and tests should be code agnostic. Developing verification methods is still open research. Testing single-physics code pieces in isolation may lead to bad results when they are coupled. Good verification tests must include multiple physics models, multiple materials, and be performed in multiple dimensions.
Spring 2023 Solar Industry Update [Slides]
Each quarter, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) conducts the Quarterly Solar Industry Update, a presentation of technical trends within the solar industry, to the solar office staff. Each presentation focuses on global and U.S. supply and demand, module and system price, investment trends and business models, and updates on U.S. government programs supporting the solar industry.
ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System Management Assessment Internal Review Assessing Organization: EPC-ES LANL-ASMT-2022-0289 (Spring 2023)
The Environmental Protection and Compliance Division-Environmental Stewardship Group of Los Alamos National Laboratory conducted a management assessment that supports the implementation of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Environmental Management System according to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2015, Environmental Management System. The assessment resulted in zero findings of nonconformity, five opportunities for improvement, four noteworthy practices, and three observations.
Understanding Building Energy Use in the Cheyenne-Denver-Colorado Springs Area: Basic Building Stock Characterization
This report is part of a publication series that focuses on approximately 100 different local geographies, or "clusters." Each report provides commercial and multifamily building characteristic and energy data for a local geography, with the intention of helping policymakers at the city, county and state levels better understand building energy use. Specifically, this report breaks down the building stock in the counties shown in Figure 1 by building type, size, energy consumption, and emissions.
