Supplementary spatial data for Available Land for Cellulosic Biofuel Production: A Supply Chain Centered Comparison

Collection of the underlying spatially explicit data for Available Land for Cellulosic Biofuel Production: A Supply Chain Centered Comparison. Includes raw biomass yield data and soil carbon sequestration potential data for three types of marginal land for the USA midwest at the field level including field areas. Collection also includes raw land rasters for the three types of marginal land, model parameters for the MILP model used in the study, and results used to generate the figures in the paper.

Model Calibration with Markov Chain Monte Carlo Tutorial

The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to use Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) to calibrate a model. By calibration, we mean the selection of model parameters (and, when relevant, structures). A common goal in model development and diagnostics is calibration, or the identification of model structures and parameters which are consistent with data. While models can be calibrated through hand-tuning parameters or minimizing simple error metrics such as root-mean-square-error (RMSE), these approaches can underrepresent the probabilistic nature of the data-generating process, as well as the potential for multiple model configurations to be consistent with the data. Probabilistic uncertainty quantification, which is the topic of this notebook, can address these concerns. This tutorial is presented as an appendix to the e-book: Addressing Uncertainty in MultiSector Dynamics Research.

Enhanced Validation of Advanced Battery Supply Chains (EVALS) Overview

EVALS is a consortium funded by the Vehicle Technologies Office at DOE involving Idaho National Lab, Argonne National Lab, and NREL. The goal of EVALS is to fully develop a suite of tools that support domestic electric vehicle manufacturing through evaluation of domestic primary resources and acceleration of their path to domestic material and battery production. This talk will focus on describing the EVALS project and discussing initial results regarding domestic LiFePO4 precursor sourcing and impacts on the domestic manufacturing supply chain.

Energy Supply Chain Strategic Plan

With energy demand rising and the desire to reduce carbon emissions becoming more prominent, government and industry are increasingly interested in developing an emissions-free, power generation source that is safe, resilient and dependable. The world is looking to expand clean energy capabilities and develop the next generation of nuclear reactors. Not only is building next-generation energy systems Idaho National Laboratory’s opportunity, it is also Idaho’s opportunity. With this in mind, INL launched Supply Chain Initiative to leverage INL’s energy projects to build an energy talent pipeline and develop a robust business ecosystem to support current and future projects.

Supply Chain for Energy Technologies

Understanding manufacturing cost implications of technologies is critical to aid adoption of next-generation energy solutions. It is important to understand not only of the manufacturing costs and value-add along the supply chain, but also gain understanding of manufacturing location decisions. By identifying a technology's competitive strengths and weaknesses, analyses give researchers and program decision makers the data and insights needed to create strategies and plans that better promote U.S. economic growth and pursue R&D activities that have the greatest long-term potential to yield significant energy savings for U.S. consumers. In this talk, we present examples of analysis from a variety of energy technologies to demonstrate how manufacturing cost analysis can be used to answer specific policy or research questions. In addition, we present case studies showing the importance of understanding trade flow, manufacturing locations, and capacity and utilization to inform economic growth and potential for technology adoption.
