Correction: Enhanced 5f-δ bonding in [U(C 7 H 7 ) 2 ] - : C K-edge XAS, magnetism, and ab initio calculations
The authors regret that two references to the multi-configurational pair-density functional theory methods used in the wavefunction calculations did not appear in the main article. The references were originally included in the Methods section of the Electronic Supplementary Information as ref. 17a and b, but should also have appeared in the second paragraph on page 9564. The references are listed below as ref. 1 and 2. The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.
Reduction of (pddi)Cr reveals redox noninnocence via C–C bond formation amidst competing electrophilicity: [(cpta)CrMe n ] − ( n = 0, 1) and [(pta)Cr] −
Reversible cyclopropane formation is examined in a chromium diamide–diimine chelate complex via reduction. Sites of electrophilicity incur similar and divergent chemistry; structural, electrochemical, and calculational studies afford their rationale.
Direct observation of β-alkynyl eliminations from unstrained propargylic alkoxide Cu( i ) complexes by C–C bond cleavage
We report a comprehensive study on the synthesis, reactivity, mechanism, and computation for the β-alkynyl eliminations of secondary and tertiary propargylic alkoxides of Cu( i ) complexes supported by N-heterocyclic carbenes and diphosphines.
Four-electron oxidation and one-electron reduction of the bis(terphenylthiolate) U( II ) complex, U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 [Ar iPr6 = C 6 H 3 -2,6-(C 6 H 2 -2,4,6- i Pr 3 ) 2 ]
Here, the utility of the sterically bulky terphenylthiolate ligand, (SAr iPr6 ) 1− in expanding uranium reductive chemistry has been explored. Reduction of U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 I forms the U(II) complex, U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 , in which the metal is protected by the flanking arene rings of the ligand, but they move out of the way to accommodate the four electron reduction of PhN=NPh to form the U(VI) bis(imido) product U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 (=NPh) 2 (THF) 2 . Here, the KC 8 reduction of U(SAr iPr6 ) 2 generates a more reduced complex, KU(μ-SAr iPr6 ) 2 , initially identified by a −2.55 V vs. Fc + /Fc electrochemical reduction event in THF.

Two disulfide-reducing pathways are required for the maturation of plastid c -type cytochromes in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
Abstract In plastids, conversion of light energy into ATP relies on cytochrome f, a key electron carrier with a heme covalently attached to a CXXCH motif. Covalent heme attachment requires reduction of the disulfide-bonded CXXCH by CCS5 and CCS4. CCS5 receives electrons from the oxidoreductase CCDA, while CCS4 is a protein of unknown function. In Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, loss of CCS4 or CCS5 yields a partial cytochrome f assembly defect. Here, we report that the ccs4ccs5 double mutant displays a synthetic photosynthetic defect characterized by a complete loss of holocytochrome f assembly. This defect is chemically corrected by reducing agents, confirming the placement of CCS4 and CCS5 in a reducing pathway. CCS4-like proteins occur in the green lineage, and we show that HCF153, a distant ortholog from Arabidopsis thaliana, can substitute for Chlamydomonas CCS4. Dominant suppressor mutations mapping to the CCS4 gene were identified in photosynthetic revertants of the ccs4ccs5 mutants. The suppressor mutations yield changes in the stroma-facing domain of CCS4 that restore holocytochrome f assembly above the residual levels detected in ccs5. Because the CCDA protein accumulation is decreased specifically in the ccs4 mutant, we hypothesize the suppressor mutations enhance the supply of reducing power through CCDA in the absence of CCS5. We discuss the operation of a CCS5-dependent and a CCS5-independent pathway controlling the redox status of the heme-binding cysteines of apocytochrome f.

Heterostructural interface engineering for ultrawide-gap nitrides from first principles: Ta C / Al N and Ta C / Ga N rocksalt-wurtzite interfaces
Epitaxial lattice matching is an important condition for the formation of coherent interfaces with low defect densities. However, lattice-matched substrates with the same crystal structure as the active layer are often not available, suggesting opportunities for utilizing heterostructural interfaces. For example, at high Al contents that are interesting for ultrawide-gap applications in power electronics, Al x Ga 1-x N semiconductor alloys in the (0001) orientation of the wurtzite (wz) structure become lattice-matched to (111)-oriented rocksalt (rs) TaC substrates. To predict the expected interface atomic structures under different synthesis conditions, we perform high-throughput density-functional-theory calculations, using an algorithm for systematic sampling of the possible stacking sequences of the atomic layers on the in-plane hexagonal lattice. The approach considers octahedral, tetrahedral, and prismatic coordination motifs, and is generally applicable for the modeling of commensurate rs/wz heterostructural interfaces. Our results provide guidance for synthesis control of substrate-film bonding and the polarity of ultrawide-gap Al x Ga 1-x N alloys on TaC substrates.
α -cluster microscopic study of C 12 + C 12 fusion toward the zero energy limit
The carbon burning process is a fundamental step of stellar evolution and governs the synthesis of chemical elements important for the formation of life. In this work, we utilize the microscopic hybrid α cluster (HαC) model and an analytical approach, both in the framework of the Imaginary Time Method (ITM), to study the carbon fusion reaction towards zero energy. We obtain the values of the cross sections, astrophysical factors and correlate our results to collective motion. We also include a calculation for the 2 + carbon fusion and discuss a possible experimental investigation. Our results confirm direct experimental and theoretical results close to the barrier, while suggest possible 2 + mixtures in the indirect experimental data. Furthermore, our study offers an accurate view of the burning process in the somewhat unexplored low energy region.
Measurement of B$_\mathrm{c}$(2S)$^+$ and B$_\mathrm{c}^*$(2S)$^+$ cross section ratios in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV
The ratios of the Bc(2S)+ to Bc+, Bc*(2S)+ to Bc+, and Bc*(2S)+ to Bc(2S)+ production cross sections are measured in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV, using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 143 fb-1. The three measurements are made in the Bc+ meson phase space region defined by the transverse momentum pT>15 GeV and absolute rapidity |y|<2.4, with the excited Bc(*)(2S)+ states reconstructed through the Bc(*)+π+π−, followed by the Bc+→J/ψπ+ and J/ψ→μ+μ− decays. The Bc(2S)+ to Bc+, Bc*(2S)+ to Bc+, and Bc*(2S)+ to Bc(2S)+ cross section ratios, including the unknown Bc(*)(2S)+→Bc(*)+π+π− branching fractions, are (3.47±0.63(stat)±0.33(syst))%, (4.69±0.71(stat)±0.56(syst))%, and 1.35±0.32(stat)±0.09(syst), respectively. None of these ratios shows a significant dependence on the pT or |y| of the Bc+ meson. The normalized dipion invariant mass distributions from the decays Bc(*)(2S)+→Bc(*)+π+π− are also reported.
