This presentation provides an overview of NLR's megawatt-scale controller-hardware-in-the-loop (CHIL) and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) platforms to evaluate distributed energy resource and microgrid controls for successful field deployment.
NARUC regularly hosts multi-day cybersecurity training events for commissioners and their staff to gain knowledge of IT/OT technologies, understand the spectrum of state and federal approaches to cybersecurity, and explore cybersecurity cost recovery challenges and innovative solutions to address them. About 300 commissioners and staffers typically register for these virtual events.
This presentation is an overview of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's REopt modeling platform and resilience analysis capabilities.
NREL's Power Electronic Grid Interface (PEGI) Workshop, held October 13, 2020, focused on the research challenges of operating power systems with ever-higher levels of inverter-based generation and power-electronic-based load. This presentation discusses the impact of distributed energy resources on bulk system reliability.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as tungsten diselenide (WSe 2 ) are attractive nanomaterials for quantum information applications due to single-photon emission (SPE) from intrinsic atomic defects. Defect and strain engineering techniques have been developed to produce high purity, deterministically placed SPE in WSe 2 . However, a major challenge in the application of these techniques is the low temperature required to observe defect-bound TMD exciton emission, typically limiting SPE to T < 30 K. SPE at higher temperatures either loses purity or requires integration into complex devices such as optical cavities. Here, 2D heterostructure engineering and molecular functionalization are combined to achieve high purity (>90%) SPE in strained WSe 2 persisting to over T = 90 K. Covalent diazonium functionalization of graphite in layered WSe 2 /graphite heterostructures maintains high purity up to T = 90 K and single-photon source integrity up to T = 115 K. This method preserves the best qualities of SPE from WSe 2 while increasing working temperature to more than three times the typical range. This work demonstrates the versatility of surface functionalization and heterostructure design to synergistically improve the properties of quantum emission and offers new insights into the phenomenon of SPE from 2D materials.
Guiding, storing, and processing light at the nanoscale hinges on understanding how polaritons — hybrid quasiparticles of light and matter — propagate and interfere in both space and time. This work introduces a synchrotron-based technique, SYnchrotron SpaceTimE Mapping (SYSTEM), which captures real-time evolution of polariton wave packets with ∼10 nm spatial and sub-100 fs temporal resolution across an ultrabroadband 5–50 THz range. Here, SYSTEM directly visualizes the creation, interference, and decay of multiple high-quality Fabry-Pérot phonon polariton cavity modes in an α-MoO 3 microcavity. These real-space, real-time observations reveal wave-packet dynamics and cavity resonances with record-high quality factors (Q ≈ 100) in the single-digit terahertz regime near 9 THz. SYSTEM thus offers a powerful and broadly applicable platform for probing and engineering ultraslow, deeply subwavelength polaritons, opening new avenues for tailoring light–matter interactions and advancing next-generation THz nanophotonic technologies.

Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs), such as indium-tin oxide (ITO) and indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO), are essential components in the design of flexible optoelectronic devices. However, it is still a challenge to prepare low-cost flexible transparent conductive film for achieving the flexible functionality together with high optical transparency and electrical conductivity. Herein, fluorphlogopite (mica) is selected as the bendable and transparent substrate for the fabrication of low-cost perovskite CaVO 3 TCO epitaxial film. Benefitting from thin mica substrate with high Young’s modulus of 200 GPa, flexible CaVO 3 TCO epitaxial film exhibits high mechanical stability in terms of electrical conductivity and optical transparency after bending up to 10 5 cycles. The change of resistance can reflect the bending curvature and strain state. Finally, our results provide a new pathway to design superior mechanical flexibility and stability CaVO 3 TCO films for application in flexible, light-weight, and portable smart optoelectronic devices.
