Cyberguardians Webinar

Robust solar industry growth is creating a shortage of U.S. workers who are knowledgeable in emerging Distributed Energy Resource (DER) technologies including networking, operational software, smart advanced inverters, smart advanced PV modules, and cybersecurity. Retraining military veterans and other qualified individuals to fill workforce gaps in those technologies is the project focus. The project leverages the experience and contributions of DER and cybersecurity experts, educational organizations offering accreditation, and groups serving our nation’s veterans to meet its goals. To bridge this workforce skills gap, the Cyberguardians and STEM Warriors project will establish a complete learning and career advancement system for veterans, transitioning military personnel and other qualified individuals into the DER workforce. The project will guide participants successfully through the process of program/vocation selection, curriculum enrollment, academic mentoring, degree or certificate attainment, job board enrollment, introduction to hiring managers at DER companies, and successful job acquisition. This webinar was used to promote the Cyberguardians program and to ensure ample news coverage to reach veterans, employers, and others that would benefit from this program.

Cyber-Informed Engineering Overview: Joint NERC/INL/E-ISAC Webinar

In July, NERC, the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center (E-ISAC), and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) will host a joint informational webinar to highlight areas focused on integrating cyber and physical security with conventional engineering practices (security integration). NERC's work on these topics represents one of the first focused applications of Cyber-Informed Engineering (CIE). INL is leading the development of philosophy and practices to identify and mitigate the inherent risks of digital technology by including cybersecurity as a core element of engineering risk management. This presentation will provide an overview of CIE, a discussion of how NERC's work represents one of the first new discipline-specific applications of CIE, and an update on significant milestones and resources from the CIE program.

Webinar: Modular Nuclear Power: The Microreactor Revolution

Many times smaller than traditional nuclear reactors, microreactors can be made in a factory and shipped wherever needed. This innovative approach to energy production has huge potential to bring electricity to remote areas, support regions affected by natural disasters, and provide right-sized, scalable power to our energy grid. Learn what they are, how they work, and their benefits in this webinar, featuring Piyush Sabharwall, distinguished staff nuclear research scientist and technical area lead for the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy's Microreactor R&D Program at Idaho National Laboratory.

Rotating Detonation Engine Introduction [Webinar]

Turning a constant pressure combustor into a constant volume combustor changes it from a Brayton Cycle into a Humphrey Cycle. This allows it to extract more work from the fuel, increasing efficiency and reducing emissions. One way to create a constant volume combustor is by using a rotation detonation engine that introduces air and fuel continuously.

EV Champion Training Webinar 2: ZEV and EV Charging Planning [Slides]

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Champion Training Series, hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), is tailored for fleet managers, facility managers, and other stakeholders involved in the deployment of EVs and charging stations. This series equips participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to become subject matter experts in EV implementation. This is the second training in a four-part series and serves as an intermediate training. This training covers the first four steps in the ZEV Ready Center process, including how to identify and train your zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) team, align headquarters strategy with site-level planning, identify ZEV opportunities, and identify charging needs for your project sites. Participants will gain a solid foundation to support the effective deployment and management of EVs and their infrastructure.
