Low-voltage syngas synthesis via BPM electrolysis of CO 2 capture and aldehyde solution

A bipolar membrane electrolyzer coupling bicarbonate electrolysis with formaldehyde oxidation directly produces syngas (H 2 : CO = 1) at 1.7 V and 200 mA cm −2 with 200% combined Faradaic efficiency. We demonstrate an electrochemical syngas production platform that couples bicarbonate electrolysis with formaldehyde oxidation in a bipolar membrane electrode assembly. This strategy doubles syngas (CO + H 2 ) throughput compared to conventional CO 2 electrolysis by generating CO at the cathode and H 2 at the anode. The system achieves a full-cell voltage of 1.7 V while operating at an industrially relevant current density of 200 mA cm −2 . The system maintained a combined Faradaic efficiency of 200% over 8 hours. The process produces syngas with a 1 : 1 H 2 : CO ratio, aligning with downstream requirements for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. We further investigated how Cu anode active sites and electrolyte composition affect formaldehyde oxidation activity. Our integrated electrolytic system reduces levelized energy by 45–61% relative to conventional electrochemical syngas production platforms.

Hardware-in-the-loop Testing of Network Protectors for Low-Voltage Networks with Distributed Energy Resources

In this report, we developed and validated a network protector relay digital twin model and interfaced a commonly used network protector relay hardware with our real-time simulation system. Hardware-in-the-loop protection studies are performed to assess the impact of distributed energy resources (DER) and benchmark a rate-of-change-based mitigation strategy. Simulation results suggest that the network protector reverse trip and auto-reclose functions are negatively impacted by the high distributed energy resource penetration. To accommodate DER backfeed while remaining secure and reliable for faults on primary feeders, we recommend options for a rate-of-change-based blocking scheme and a protection setting change. Finally, future mitigation ideas and standard revisions are discussed.

Method and apparatus for using compression to improve performance of low voltage caches

A method of operating a cache in a computing device includes, in response to receiving a memory access request at the cache, determining compressibility of data specified by the request, selecting in the cache a destination portion for storing the data based on the compressibility of the data and a persistent fault history of the destination portion, and storing a compressed copy of the data in a non-faulted subportion of the destination portion, wherein the persistent fault history indicates that the non-faulted subportion excludes any persistent faults.

Compact, high-efficiency accelerators driven by low-voltage solid-state amplifiers

A compact particle accelerator can include two or more cavities disposed along an axis of the particle accelerator, each of which is coupled to two or more drivers. The accelerator can also include a power supply coupled to the two or more drivers such that a particle beam traveling along the axis is accelerated. The power supply can be an interface with a commercial power outlet, battery power, or a combination thereof depending upon the use case. Example configurations of the accelerator include hand held or mobile devices that are capable of delivering up to and greater than a 1 MeV electron beam.
