Charge- 4 e and Charge- 6 e Flux Quantization and Higher Charge Superconductivity in Kagome Superconductor Ring Devices

The flux quantization is a key indication of electron pairing in superconductors. For example, the well-known h / 2 e flux quantization is considered strong evidence for the existence of charge- 2 e , two-electron Cooper pairs. Here we report evidence for multicharge flux quantization in mesoscopic ring devices fabricated using the transition-metal kagome superconductor CsV 3 Sb 5 . We perform systematic magnetotransport measurements and observe unprecedented quantization of magnetic flux in units of h / 4 e and h / 6 e in magnetoresistance oscillations. Specifically, at low temperatures, magnetoresistance oscillations with period h / 2 e are detected, as expected from the flux quantization for charge- 2 e superconductivity. We find that the h / 2 e oscillations are suppressed and replaced by resistance oscillations with h / 4 e periodicity when the temperature is increased. Increasing the temperature further suppresses the h / 4 e oscillations, and robust resistance oscillations with h / 6 e periodicity emerge as evidence for charge- 6 e flux quantization. Our observations provide the first experimental evidence for the existence of multicharge flux quanta and emergent quantum matter exhibiting higher-charge superconductivity in the strongly fluctuating region above the charge- 2 e Cooper pair condensate, revealing new insights into the intertwined and vestigial electronic order in kagome superconductors. Angular correlations in the ${e^+}{e^-}$ decay of excited states in $\mathrm{^8Be}$

Motivated by the recent observation of anomalous electron-positron angular correlations in the decay of the 18.15-MeV $\mathrm{1^+}$ excited states in $\mathrm{^8Be}$, we reexamine in detail the standard model expectations for these angular correlations. The 18.15-MeV state is above particle threshold, and several multipoles can contribute to its ${e^+}{e^-}$ decay. Here, we present the general theoretical expressions for ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distributions for nuclear decay by $C0, C1, C2, M1, E1,$ and $E2$ multipoles, and we examine their relative contribution to the ${e^+}{e^-}$ decay of $\mathrm{^8Be}$ at 18.15 MeV. We find that this resonance is dominated by $M1$ to $E1$ decay, and that the ratio of $M1$ to $E1$ strength is a strong function of energy. This is in contrast to the original analysis of the ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distributions, where the $M1/E1$ ratio was assumed to be a constant over the energy region ${E_p} = 0.8 – 1.2$ MeV. We find that the existence of a “bump” in the measured angular distribution is strongly dependent on the assumed $M1/E1$ ratio, with the present analysis finding the measured large-angle contributions to the ${e^+}{e^-}$ angular distribution to be lower than expectation. Thus, in the current analysis we find no evidence for axion decay in the 18.15-MeV resonance region of $\mathrm{^8Be}$.

Speed of Sound Measurements of R-1130(E) and an Azeotropic Blend of R-1336mzz(Z)/1130(E)

Sound speed data measured using a dual-path pulse-echo instrument are reported for pure trans-1,2-dichloroethene (R-1130(E)) and an azeotropic blend of cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutene (R-1336mzz(Z)) and R-1130(E) with a composition of 74.8 mass % R-1336mzz(Z) with the balance being R-1130(E). The azeotropic blend of R-1336mzz(Z)/1130(E) is classified as R-514A in ANSI/ASHRAE standard 34. Liquid phase speed of sound data are reported from just above the saturation pressure of pure R-1130(E) or the bubble point pressure of R-514A to a maximum pressure of 26.7 MPa. The relative combined expanded uncertainty in the speed of sound varies from 0.032 % to 0.148 % with the greatest deviations occurring at the lowest sound speeds. At present, no reference Helmholtz-energy-explicit equation of state (EOS) is available for R-1130(E). Therefore, the reported data for pure R-1130(E) are compared to an extended corresponding states (ECS) model. Deviations between the pure R-1130(E) sound speed data and the ECS model were found to be consistently negative ranging between − 4.1 % and − 3.5 %. The R-514A data are compared to a multifluid model inclusive of the established reference Helmholtz-energy-explicit EOS for R-1336mzz(Z) and ECS model for R-1130(E) with estimated binary interaction parameters. Deviations between the experimental speed of sound data and the multifluid model were also found to be consistently negative. However, deviations from the multifluid model were found to be as great as − 17.1 %. The large deviations from the ECS model and multifluid model underscore the need for a robust Helmholtz-energy-explicit EOS for R-1130(E).

Measurement of the cross sections of $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV

Abstract Usinge + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1 , we measure the Born cross sections for the process$$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of$$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 , evidence for$$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into$$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 are determined.

Dimetalloylene (M‐E‐M) Complexes of Heavier Main Group Elements Ge, Sn, Pb, Bi via Cleavage of E‐X Bonds (X=N(SiMe 3 ) 2 , O t Bu) with an Iridium Hydride

Abstract Reactions of the Ir V hydride [ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH 4 {BDI=(Dipp)NC(Me)CH(Me)CN(Dipp); Dipp=2,6‐ i Pr 2 C 6 H 3 } with E[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 2 (E=Sn, Pb) afforded the unusual dimeric dimetallotetrylenes ([ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH) 2 ( μ 2 ‐E) 2 in good yields. Moreover, ([ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH) 2 ( μ 2 ‐Ge) 2 was formed in situ from thermal decomposition of [ Me BDI Dipp ]Ir(H) 2 Ge[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 2 . These reactions are accompanied by liberation of HN(SiMe 3 ) 2 and H 2 through the apparent cleavage of an E−N(SiMe 3 ) 2 bond by Ir−H. In a reversal of this process, ([ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH) 2 ( μ 2 ‐E) 2 reacted with excess H 2 to regenerate [ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH 4 . Varying the concentrations of reactants led to formation of the trimeric ([ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH 2 ) 3 ( μ 2 ‐E) 3 . The further scope of this synthetic route was investigated with group 15 amides, and ([ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH) 2 ( μ 2 ‐Bi) 2 was prepared by the reaction of [ Me BDI Dipp ]IrH 4 with Bi(NMe 2 ) 3 or Bi(O t Bu) 3 to afford the first example of a “naked” two‐coordinate Bi atom bound exclusively to transition metals. A viable mechanism that accounts for the formation of these products is proposed. Computational investigations of the Ir 2 E 2 (E=Sn, Pb) compounds characterized them as open‐shell singlets with confined nonbonding lone pairs at the E centers. In contrast, Ir 2 Bi 2 is characterized as having a closed‐shell singlet ground state.

Isostructural bridging diferrous chalcogenide cores [Fe II (μ-E)Fe II ] (E = O, S, Se, Te) with decreasing antiferromagnetic coupling down the chalcogenide series

Iron compounds containing a bridging oxo or sulfido moiety are ubiquitous in biological systems, but substitution with the heavier chalcogenides selenium and tellurium, however, is much rarer, with only a few examples reported to date. Here we show that treatment of the ferrous starting material [( tBu pyrpyrr 2 )Fe(OEt 2 )] (1-OEt 2 ) ( tBu pyrpyrr 2 = 3,5- t Bu 2 -bis(pyrrolyl)pyridine) with phosphine chalcogenide reagents E = PR 3 results in the neutral phosphine chalcogenide adduct series [( tBu pyrpyrr 2 )Fe(EPR 3 )] (E = O, S, Se; R = Ph; E = Te; R = t Bu) (1-E) without any electron transfer, whereas treatment of the anionic starting material [K] 2 [( tBu pyrpyrr 2 )Fe 2 (μ-N 2 )] (2-N 2 ) with the appropriate chalcogenide transfer source yields cleanly the isostructural ferrous bridging mono-chalcogenide ate complexes [K] 2 [( tBu pyrpyrr 2 )Fe 2 (μ-E)] (2-E) (E = O, S, Se, and Te) having significant deviation in the Fe–E–Fe bridge from linear in the case of E = O to more acute for the heaviest chalcogenide. All bridging chalcogenide complexes were analyzed using a variety of spectroscopic techniques, including 1 H NMR, UV-Vis electronic absorbtion, and 57 Fe Mössbauer. The spin-state and degree of communication between the two ferrous ions were probed via SQUID magnetometry, where it was found that all iron centers were high-spin (S = 2) Fe II , with magnetic exchange coupling between the Fe II ions. Magnetic studies established that antiferromagnetic coupling between the ferrous ions decreases as the identity of the chalcogen is tuned from O to the heaviest congener Te.

Study of the decay D 0 → ρ ( 770 ) − e + ν e

We present a study of the semileptonic decay D 0 → π − π 0 e + ν e using an e + e − annihilation data sample of 7.93 fb − 1 collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The branching fraction of D 0 → ρ ( 770 ) − e + ν e is measured to be ( 1.439 ± 0.033 ( stat ) ± 0.027 ( syst ) ) × 10 − 3 , which is a factor 1.6 more precise than previous measurements. By performing an amplitude analysis, we measure the hadronic form-factor ratios of D 0 → ρ ( 770 ) − e + ν e at q 2 = 0 assuming the single-pole-dominance parametrization: r V = V ( 0 ) / A 1 ( 0 ) = 1.548 ± 0.079 ( stat ) ± 0.041 ( syst ) and r 2 = A 2 ( 0 ) / A 1 ( 0 ) = 0.823 ± 0.056 ( stat ) ± 0.026 ( syst ) . Search for the e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) process at BESIII

Based on 368.5 p b − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies 4.914 and 4.946 GeV by the BESIII detector, the e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) process is searched for the first time. No significant signal is observed and the upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the product of the Born cross section σ ( e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) ) and the branching fraction B [ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ] at 4.914 and 4.946 GeV are set to be 0.85 and 0.96 pb, respectively. Search for e + e − → φ χ c 0 and φ η c 2 ( 1 D ) at center-of-mass energies from 4.47 to 4.95 GeV

Utilizing a dataset of 6.7 fb − 1 from electron-positron collisions recorded by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, a search is conducted for the processes e + e − → ϕ χ c 0 and ϕ η c 2 ( 1 D ) across center-of-mass energies from 4.47 to 4.95 GeV. In the absence of any significant signals, upper limits are set. These include limits on the dressed cross sections for e + e − → ϕ χ c 0 , as well as the product of the dressed cross section for e + e − → ϕ η c 2 ( 1 D ) and a sum of five branching fractions. Furthermore, the product of the electronic width of Y ( 4660 ) and the branching fraction of the Y ( 4660 ) → ϕ χ c 0 , denoted as Γ e + e − Y ( 4660 ) B Y ( 4660 ) → ϕ χ c 0 , is determined to be < 0.35 eV at the 90% confidence level. Confirmation of the E(sup src)(sub Peak)-E(sub iso) (Amati) relation from the x-ray flash XRF 050416A observed by the Swift burst alert telescope

We report Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) observations of the X-ray flash (XRF) XRF 050416A. The fluence ratio between the 15-25 and 25-50 keV energy bands of this event is 1.5, thus making it the softest gamma-ray burst (GRB) observed by BAT so far. The spectrum is well fitted by a Band function with E(sup obs)(sub peak) of 15.0(sup +2.3)(sub -2.7) keV. Assuming the redshift of the host galaxy (z = 0.6535), the isotropic equivalent radiated energy E(sub iso) and the peak energy at the GRB rest frame (E(sup src)(sub peak)) of XRF 050416A are not only consistent with the correlation found by Amati et al. and extended to XRFs by Sakamoto et al. but also fill in the gap of this relation around the 30-80 keV range of E(sup src)(sub peak). This result tightens the validity of the E(sup src)(sub Peak)-E(sup src)(sub peak) relation from XRFs to GRBs. We also find that the jet break time estimated using the empirical relation between E(sup src)(sub peak) and the collimation corrected energy E(sub gamma), is inconsistent with the afterglow observation by the Swift X-Ray Telescope. This could be due to the extra external shock emission overlaid around the jet break time or to the nonexistence of a jet break feature for XRFs, which might be a further challenge for GRB jet emission models and XRF/GRB unification scenarios.

Probing extended scalar sectors with precision e + e - → Zh and Higgs diphoton studies

We compute the one-loop corrections to σ(e + e - → Zh) arising from representative extended Standard Model scalar sector scenarios. According to the new scalar SU(2)L representations, we consider the inert doublet, real and complex triplet, quintuplet, and septuplet models. With the sub-percent level precision expected for prospective future e + e - collider measurements of σ(e + e - → Zh), studies of the Higgsstrahlung process will probe extended scalar sector particle spectrum and interactions in a manner complementary to direct searches at the Large Hadron Collider and possible future pp colliders. We also compare with the sensitivity of future Higgs diphoton decay rate measurements. We find that the σ(e + e - → Zh) and Γ(h → γγ) complementarity is particularly pronounced for the complex triplet model.

Study of e + e - → η Φ via initial state radiation at Belle

Using 980 fb -1 of data collected on and around the (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider, we measure the cross section of e + ⁢e - → η⁢Φ from threshold to 3.95 GeV via initial state radiation. There are clear Φ⁡(1680) and J/ψ signals but no significant Φ⁡(2170) signal in the ηΦ final state. The branching fraction $\mathscr{B}$⁡[J/ψ →η⁢Φ] is measured to be (7.2 ±0.8 ±0.5) ×10 -4 . The resonant parameters of Φ⁡(1680) are determined to be m Φ(1680) = (1696±8±10) MeV/c 2 (statistical and systematic errors, respectively), Γ Φ⁡(1680) =(175±13±16) MeV and, depending on the possible presence of predominantly constructive or destructive interference between Φ⁡(1680) and continuum production, Γ$^{e^+e^-}_{Φ⁡(1680)}$·$\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ⁡(1680)→ηΦ] and $\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ(1680)→η⁢Φ] are determined to be (75 ±10 ±11) eV and (25±12±2)% or (207±16±20) eV and (23 ±10 ±2)%, respectively. The upper limit for Γ$^{e^+e^-}_{Φ⁡(2170)}$·$\mathscr{B}$⁡[Φ⁡(2170) → ηΦ] is determined to be either 0.17 or 18.6 eV at the 90% confidence level.

Measurement of the e + e − → π + π − π 0 cross section in the energy range 0.62–3.50 GeV at Belle II

We report a measurement of the e + e − → π + π − π 0 cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an e + e − data sample corresponding to 191 fb − 1 of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in e + e − → π + π − π 0 γ events, which involve a π 0 → γ γ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the ω and ϕ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62–1.80 GeV energy range yield a μ 3 π = [ 48.91 ± 0.23 ( stat ) ± 1.07 ( syst ) ] × 10 − 10 for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by 2.5 standard deviations from the most precise current determination. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Speed of Sound Measurements of Binary Mixtures of Hydrofluorocarbons [Pentafluoroethane (R-125), 1,1-Difluoroethane (R-152a), or 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-Heptafluoropropane (R-227ea)] with Hydrofluoroolefins [2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene (R-1234yf) or trans-1,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene (R-1234ze(E))]

In this article, speed of sound data measured using a dual-path pulse-echo instrument are reported for three binary refrigerant mixtures, R-125/1234yf, R-1234yf/152a, and R-1234ze(E)/227ea, at compositions of (0.33/0.67) and (0.67/0.33) mole fraction. The speed of sound was studied at temperatures ranging from 230 K to 345 K from pressures slightly above the bubble point curve up to 20 MPa for the mixtures containing R-1234yf and 49 MPa for the R-1234ze(E)/227ea mixtures. The relative combined expanded speed of sound uncertainty ranged from 0.039 % to 0.317 % with a mean uncertainty over all state points of less than 0.10 %. The reported data are compared to the most recent mixture models in REFPROP for each blend studied. Comparisons of available mixture models for the R-125/1234yf and R-1234yf/152a blends exhibit average absolute deviation values ranging from 0.10 % to 0.27 %, and the average absolute deviations for R-1234ze(E)/227ea blends range from 0.62 % to 0.94 %. The comparisons show that only minor adjustments are required to the R-125/1234yf and R-1234yf/152a mixture models to represent the speed of sound data within its uncertainty. However, significant adjustments are needed to improve the current mixture models for the R-1234ze(E)/227ea blend. Deficiencies with the R-1234ze(E)/227ea mixture model are not unexpected since it (1) utilizes a pure-fluid EOS R-1234ze(E) that has been shown to inaccurately represent R-1234ze(E) speed of sound values and (2) uses binary interaction parameters for the chemically similar mixture of R-1234yf/227ea.
