Development of a Web-Based Graphical User Interface for Fermilab Robots

This project provides the students/faculty team with the unique opportunity to work with several robots. Additionally, the student team will be able to learn from the experience of the Robotics Initiative members who have a wide variety of technical backgrounds outside of software development. Working with an interdisciplinary group to solve a complex problem that is unique to our facility, is a valuable experience that the lab can provide. This project aligns with the ACORN projects R&D efforts regarding the integration of robotics status/control with the accelerator control system.

An R Shiny graphical user interface for analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting high precision mass spectrometric data

There is currently a lack of software that meets the needs for the analysis of raw data produced by modern isotope ratio mass spectrometers for both R&D and routine use at SRNL and other US national labs • Needs to accommodate multiple isotope systems, instruments, and manufacturers • Include modern statistical methods and handling/visualization of uncertainty • Flexible software with transparent (no “black box”) and reproducible methods • This project is inspired by existing discipline-specific data analysis software (e.g., Tripoli1 , ET_Redux2 , IsoplotR3) used in the geochemical community • Our goal is to build an open source data analysis software package that focuses on flexibility, transparency, and reproducibility

The Web as the Primary Control System User Interface

Fermilab's Control System uses a proprietary application framework written decades ago. Considered state-ofthe- art at one time, the control system now lacks many features we expect from a modern interface and needs to be updated. Our investigation of Web browsers and JavaScript revealed a powerful, rich, and state-of-the-art development environment. We discuss JavaScript frameworks, JavaScript language features, and packaging tools. We also discuss issues we need to resolve before we are confident this can become our primary application platform.
