Transonic Flutter Characteristics of an Aspect-Ratio-4, 45 deg. Sweptback, Taper-Ratio-0.2 Plan Form

The results of several flutter investigations to determine the effects of plan-form variations on the flutter characteristics of thin cantilevered wings at transonic Mach numbers have been reported previously. In the present investigation the data are extended to include a wing having an aspect ratio of 4, 45 of sweepback, and a taper ratio of 0.2. The data were obtained in the Langley transonic blowdown tunnel over a Mach number range from 0.6 to 1.4. The experimental results indicate an abrupt and rather large increase in both a flutter-speed parameter and a flutter-frequency parameter as the Mach number is increased from 1.05 to 1.10. The foregoing is interpreted as indicating a marked change in the flutter mode. Calculated flutter speeds, based on incompressible-flow aerodynamic coefficients, were too high by 20 percent or more throughout the subsonic Mach number range of the investigation. Calculated flutter frequencies were about 7 percent too high at a Mach number of 0.65 and were about 20 percent too high at a Mach number of 0.9. No significant independent effects of thickness were indicated for the plan form investigated as the thickness was changed from 3 to 4 percent chord.

Performance of single-stage axial-flow transonic compressor with rotor and stator aspect ratios of 1.63 and 1.77, respectively, and with design pressure ratio of 2.05

The overall and blade-element performance of a transonic compressor stage is presented over the stable operating range for speeds from 50 to 100 percent of design. The stage was designed for a pressure ratio of 2.05 at a flow of 20.2 kg/sec and a tip speed of 455 m/sec. At design speed the rotor and stage achieved peak efficiencies of 0.849 and 0.831, respectively, at the minimum flow condition. The stage stall point occurred at a flow higher than the design flow.

Lift, Drag, and Pitching Moment of Low-aspect-ratio Wings at Subsonic and Supersonic Speeds : Twisted and Cambered Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 2 with NACA 0003-63 Thickness Distribution

This report presents the results of an investigation to ascertain the lift, drag, and pitching moment of a wing-body combination having a triangular wing of aspect ratio 2 with NACA 0003-63 thickness distribution in streamwise planes and twisted and cambered for a nearly elliptical span load distribution. Results are shown for Mach numbers from 0.60 to 0.90 and from 1.30 to 1.70 at Reynolds numbers of 3.0 million and 7.5 million.

Lift, Drag, and Pitching Moment of Low-Aspect-Ratio Wings at Subsonic and Supersonic Speeds: Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 2 with NACA 0005-63 Thickness Distribution, Cambered and Twisted for a Trapezoidal Span Load Distribution

A wing-body combination having a plane triangular wing of aspect ratio 2 with NACA 0005-63 thickness distribution in streamwise planes, and twisted and cambered for a trapezoidal span load distribution has been investigated at both subsonic and supersonic Mach numbers. The lift, drag, and pitching moment of the model are presented for Mach numbers from 0.60 to 0.90 and 1.30 to 1.70 at a Reynolds number of 3.0 million. The variations of the characteristics with Reynolds number are also shown for several Mach numbers.
