A revisit to the requirements methodologies for services provided by the Office of Space Communications

The methodologies of the NASA requirements processing system, originally designed to enhance NASA's customer interface and response time, are reviewed. The response of NASA to the problems associated with the system is presented, and it is shown what was done to facilitate the process and to improve customer relations. The requirements generation system (RGS), a computer-supported client-server system, adopted by NASA is presented. The RGS system is configurable on a per-mission basis and can be structured to allow levels of requirements. The details provided concerning the RGS include the recommended configuration, information on becoming an RGS user and network connectivity worksheets for computer users.

Structural Analysis of Components of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space Satellite (SEDSAT) for the Small Expendable Deployer System (SEDS) Project Office

During the time frame allocated by the delivery order, members of the UAH Applied Research Program, with the cooperation of representatives from NASA investigated and conducted stress analysis of the SEDSAT1 satellite. The main area of concern was with the design of the deployable 10 m antennas. The placement of the holes for the antenna door hinge pin was too close to the edge of the antenna canister. Because of the load placed on the hinge pin, the stress analysis of this area suggested that more space would be needed between the holes and the edge of the material. Due to other conflicts, SEDSATI was removed from flying on the space shuttle and moved to the Delta Launch Vehicle. This changed many of the design requirements for the mounting and deployment of the satellite that forced a new design for the satellite. Once this happened, the stress analysis became obsolete, and the task was concluded.

A Grant from NASA's Office of Space Station Science, Planetary Atmosphere's Program to Boston University

In the past three years of this program we have made contributions to a variety of subjects in research on Jupiter's Atmosphere, the Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of Jupiter, the abundance of CH4 in Pluto's atmosphere, and the emissivity of Pluto's Surface. We also performed work on two projects related to Titan, and an analysis of the visible spectrum of a brown dwarf. The highpoints are briefly summarized and a list of papers supported partly or wholly by this program is also provided.

The Computing And Interdisciplinary Systems Office: Annual Review and Planning Meeting

The goal of this research is to develop an advanced engineering analysis system that enables high-fidelity, multi-disciplinary, full propulsion system simulations to be performed early in the design process (a virtual test cell that integrates propulsion and information technologies). This will enable rapid, high-confidence, cost-effective design of revolutionary systems.

Data Assimilation Office (DAO) Operational Analyses and Reanalyses for Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP)

The DAO operational assimilation system has produced and archived gridded data since 1998, and will continue through the CEOP period. However, major system upgrades and new assimilation variables will significantly affect the surface energy balance and data product. These changes will be discussed and the prospects for a CEOP reanalysis will be presented. W e will also review the data currently available and describe how to access the data.
