In the present report a comparison is made between the scale obtained with mixtures of cetane and l-methyl naphthalene in a bomb, and that obtained with the same fuels in a Waukesha engine. The tests were conducted in a metal bomb heated by a Nichrome spiral. The fuel was injected into the bomb from a Bosch jet by means of a specially constructed plunger pump. The instant injection and the pressure curve in the bomb were registered by a beam of light which was reflected from a mirror connected to the needle of the jet and to a membrane indicator.
The problem of autorotation has been attacked by various authors, in particular Fuchs and Schmidt who applied the so-called strip method which is based upon the assumption that the forces and moments per unit length acting in each section of the wing are equal to those on an infinite cylindrical wing of equal section in an air flow of intensity and direction resulting from the apparent relative motion of this section with respect to the surrounding air. In other words they disregarded the induced velocities, which, however, are of such importance that their omission is bound to result in appreciable errors, as we attempt to prove in this report.
Prototype expert systems implemented in software and are functionally equivalent to neural networks set up automatically and placed into operation within minutes following information-theoretic approach to automated acquisition of knowledge from large example data bases. Approach based largely on use of ITRULE computer program.
