Broad band filter photometry for 57 bright stars of spectral type A2 discussed with peak instrument responses at 3320, 2980, 2460 and 1910 A. The data include nearly all usable filter observations of G, K and M types. Sampling is nearly complete for A and F giants and supergiants, with the exception of Cepheid variables. The basic results presented are relative digital counting rates obtained with a field-stop aperture of 10 minutes of arc. Characteristics of the four filter-photometer combinations and errors are discussed. Some observations require substantial correction if they are to represent the visually brightest star in the field. These corrections and the effects of interstellar reddening are discussed. The adjusted counts are then used to construct color-color diagrams and are compared to the recent SAO grid of model atmospheres.

The narrow-band photometry of Spinrad and Taylor (1969) is analyzed by the synthetic spectra technique. Surface gravities, Doppler broadening velocities, effective temperatures, and metal abundances are determined for 131 K giants. Evolutionary tracks and gravities determined from the photometry are used to give space positions, space velocities, and absolute magnitudes of the 131 stars. We conclude that a class of stars exists with metals and/or nitrogen significantly enhanced with respect to the sun; further that these stars have average space motions similar to those of moderately old Population I stars. The Doppler broadening velocity is found to be a strong function of temperature for K giants, and in some cases, possibly a function of surface gravity.

The results of a study initiated in the fall of 1969 are reported. The study was concerned with the monthly measurement of the microwave spectra at 1612 MHz and the broadband infrared fluxes at six wavelengths for 10 OH/IR sources. The observations represent the first conclusive evidence for well-defined, periodic variations in the flux from any type of OH microwave emitter. Following the discovery of OH/IR stars that emit mainly at 1665 and/or 1667 MHz the program was expanded to include four of these sources.
