Annual Technology Baseline: The 2022 Electricity Update
Consistent cost and performance data for various electricity generation technologies can be difficult to find and may change frequently for certain technologies. With the Annual Technology Baseline (ATB), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory annually provides an organized and centralized set of such cost and performance data. The ATB uses the best information from the Department of Energy national laboratories' renewable energy analysts. The ATB has been reviewed by experts and it includes the following electricity generation and storage technologies: land-based wind, offshore wind, distributed wind, utility-scale solar photovoltaics (PV), commercial-scale solar PV, residential-scale solar PV, concentrating solar power, geothermal power, hydropower, utility-scale battery storage, commercial battery storage, residential battery storage, pumped storage hydropower, coal, and natural gas. EIA data for nuclear and conventional biopower are included for reference. This webinar presentation introduces the 2022 update to the ATB Electricity data and documentation.
Building a Sustainable Aviation Brain Trust: Key Insights From the 2022 NREL Partner Forum
Cross-sector collaboration is key for guiding the large, complex aviation industry over the emissions peak and quickly down the slope to net-zero - that theme was repeated regularly during the two-day 2022 NREL Partner Forum. With an expanding global economy, more people than ever want the convenience of air travel. That has made aviation the fastest-growing transportation sector, as well as a rising source of carbon emissions. How can the industry serve its customers while charting a course to net-zero in line with climate goals? Interest and momentum from public and private sectors are mounting to answer that question, a backdrop for the Partner Forum. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) brought 200 attendees to the whiteboard to find common goals, align interests, understand technologies, and discuss steps for safely and seamlessly decarbonizing aviation. This document captures the tenor of the conversations and provides a summary of the 1.5 day event for those who were not able to attend or who have interest in this area.

Interim Creep, Fatigue and Creep-Fatigue Data from FY 2022 INL Testing of A709 with Precipitation Treatment for ASME Code Case Data Package
This report provides the status of creep, fatigue, and creep-fatigue testing that transpired in fiscal year 2022 at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). This testing is being conducted to develop the data package to qualify A709 in Section III, Division 5 of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). This would permit the use of A709 for elevated temperature nuclear construction. Preliminary results continue to demonstrate the improved creep and fatigue resistance of A709 compared to 316H stainless steel.
Energy I-Corps Annual Report 2022
The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions is pleased to provide an update on the Energy I-Corps program. Now in its eighth year, Energy I-Corps addresses critical gaps in workforce development for our National Lab researchers. It provides meaningful real-world opportunities for the application of commercialization and entrepreneurial skills to DOE technologies. As of November 2022, 191 teams from 12 National Labs have participated in Energy I-Corps over the course of 15 cohorts and the pilot. Since its inception, Energy I-Corps participants have learned from more than 180 industry mentors and conducted over 13,600 discovery interviews with companies like: EPRI, Shell, Ford, World Bank, Breakthrough Energy, John Deere, Siemens Gamesa, Chevron, Eaton, Samsung, Lowes, Johns Manville, LEGO, U.S. Army, Trane, Tesla, GM, Dow Chemical, 3M, Whirlpool, GE, Home Depot, and Amazon. Over 20 teams have launched new businesses based on their Energy I-Corps technology. Post Energy I-Corps, technologies have attracted over $140M in post-program funding and executed over 75 licenses.

Workshop Report: 2022 International Symposium of Quantitative Codesign of Supercomputers
This report provides general information about the Second International Symposium on the Quantitative Design of Supercomputers (SQCS). This new workshop was held in conjunction with Supercomputing ’22 on November 13, 2022, in Dallas Texas. The symposium aims at combining two methodologies—collaborative codesign and data-driven analysis—to realize the potential of supercomputing more fully. We refer to the design solutions that rely on intelligence from data-driven insights across applications, systems, system software, workflows, and facilities as quantitative codesign of supercomputers.
