Mass-limiting and near mass-limiting two-phase flow in straight tube and nozzle of refrigerant flow loop system
Room temperature gaseous hydrogen mixed with liquified hydrogen in a venturi produces a two- phased liquid hydrogen stream at a stable temperature. This technique is useful in laboratory testing where presently, temperature control is maintained by a calibrated heat leak that results in considerable expenditure of cryogenic refrigerants.
A travelling-wave solid-state maser anlplifier is used to provide the first stage of amplification in the receiving system at the communication-satellite earth-station at Goonhilly Downs. While the maser itself was built by an industrial research laboratory, the auxiliary supplies and equipment essential for the operation of the maser were designed and built by staff of the Post Office Research Station. A major part of this auxiliary equipment consists of apparatus for handling the helium refrigerant.
Preserving, refrigerating, drying, lyophilization and freezing of body fluids and effluent evaluated for storage capabilities on Apollo type spacecraft
Traveling wave maser providing 41.5 db net gain when installed in closed cycle helium refrigerator, measuring input noise temperature
Wideband traveling wave maser SHF preamplifier system with high gain and low noise temperature operating in closed cycle liquid He refrigerator
Cold machining process, which uses a sub-zero refrigerated cutting fluid, is used for machining refractory or reactive metals and alloys. Special carbide tools for turning and drilling these alloys further improve the cutting performance.
Report summarizes the principal problems encountered in sphere fabrication, magnetic field losses in superconductors, configurations for the supporting field, damping oscillations, refrigeration, techniques for accelerating the sphere, read-out, and testing the stability of the gyro.
Storag of helium gas at higher temperature and pressure using liquid hydrogen refrigerant to surround primary fluid within inner vessel
Addition of a secondary pneumatic modulation input improves the standard devices used on thermostatic expansion valves. The valves normally meter incoming refrigerant flow through an orifice valve controlled by a valve-actuating diaphragm.
Helium is used for purging and pressurizing cryogenic rocket propellants, welding, atmosphere control, leak detection, and refrigeration. It provides the lowest possible liquid-bath temperature and produces superconductivity in certain materials. Its superfluid effects are used in superconducting magnets.
Integrated Cryogenic Isotope Cooling Engine system /ICICLE/ for spacecraft sensors refrigeration requirements
Closed cycle refrigeration loop in which trays holding molecular sorbent are made to serve as cooling baffles improves the performance of high vacuum systems. High performance is obtained with almost no decrease in pumping speed.
Zero-gravity absorption refrigeration system design and performance testing for space station environmental control application
Performance tests of low temperature desorption refrigeration systems with helium 4 and zeolite
Paramagnetic cycles for low temperature superconducting magnet cooling, discussing refrigerator, cryogenic pumps, regenerators and adjustable heat source and sink
Simple, reliable ground-hold refrigeration system for common-bulkhead tank meets design criteria and objectives for ground-hold of oxygen difluoride and diborane. System is failsafe and malfunctions can be rectified without interruption of basic system functions.
Development of system for storing cryogenic propellants in multiple tank configuration is discussed. System uses single loop and closed loop features. Liquid nitrogen and Freon-14 are used as refrigerants. Diagram of equipment to show components and operation is provided.
