Instruction for acquiring and analytically processing small-scale color-infrared photography to perform a soil resources inventory over forests of the southern U.S. is provided. Planning the project; acquiring aerial photography, materials, equipment and supplemental data; and preparing the photography for analysis are discussed. The procedures for preparing ancillary and primary component overlays are discussed. The use of correlation charts and dichotomous keys for mountain landforms, water regime, and vegetation is explained.
Most of the aerodynamic configurations considered are suitable for highly maneuverable air-to-air or surface-to-air missiles; however, data for a few air-to-surface, cruise missiles, and one projectile configuration are also presented. The Mach number range of the data is from about 0.2 to 4.63; however, data for most configurations cover only a portion of this range.
A general analysis is given of the flight dynamics of several surface-to-air and two air-to-air missile configurations. The analysis involves three phases: vertical climb, straight and level flight, and constant altitude turn. Wind tunnel aerodynamic data and full scale missile characteristics are used where available; unknown data are estimated. For the constant altitude turn phase, a three degree of freedom flight simulation is used. Important parameters considered in this analysis are the vehicle weight, Mach number, heading angle, thrust level, sideslip angle, g loading, and time to make the turn. The actual flight path during the turn is also determined. Results are presented in graphical form.
The payloads carried by the first four Titan Centaur launch vehicle flights were, a Viking spacecraft dynamic simulator, the Helios A spacecraft, and the two Viking spacecraft. Dynamic loads data were accumulated from these four flights for application to the Viking spacecraft. The accoustics data include time histories and spectral analysis plots of accoustic pressure measurements made in the Centaur and payload compartment during launch flight. Summary plots are presented to show composite spectra for liftoff and Mach 1/Max Q periods of flight.
Summary plots are presented for the time histories and power spectral density analyses of vibration and acceleration on the spacecraft from the Titan Centaur launchings carrying the Viking dynamic simulator and the two Viking spacecraft (TC-1, TC-3 and TC-4).
Power spectral density plots and associated time history plots are presented for the Titan-Centaur launch carrying the Viking dynamic simulator.
Power spectral density plots and associated time history plots are presented for the Titan-Centaur launch carrying the Viking A spacecraft.
Power spectral density plots and associated time history plots are presented for the Titan-Centaur launch carrying the Viking B spacecraft.
Time histories and shock-spectra of vibration and acceleration were obtained during the TC-1, TC-4 and TC-3 launch and staging events. Summary plots are presented and comparisons to Viking Program midfrequency sine test requirements are made.
Shock spectra are presented for the TC-1 (Viking dynamic simulator) flight.
Shock spectra are presented for the TC-4 (Viking A Spacecraft) flight.
Shock spectra are presented for the TC-3 (Viking B Spacecraft) flight.
Time history and PSD data are presented showing the character of the first longitudinal mode oscillation which occurred during the Centaur first burn of the TC-4 and TC-3 flights.
Power spectral density plots of vibration and strain data are presented for the Titan stage 1 burn and the Centaur main engine first burn of the TC-4 flight (Viking A spacecraft).
Power spectral density plots of vibration and strain data are presented for the Titan stage 1 burn and the Centaur main engine first burn of the TC-3 flight (Viking B spacecraft).
Extended time history plots are presented for the TC-1, TC-3, and TC-4 flights. Vibration, strain, acceleration, force, and moment data are included.
