Regulatory Testing of WTP HL W Glasses for Compliance with Delisting Requirements, VSL-03R3780-1, Rev. 1

(Part of the data collected for this work and discussed in this report was subject to data quality and bias issues. All the affected tests have subsequently been repeated, as directed by the Waste Treatment Plant Project, and new statistical analyses have been performed on the revised data set. A subsequently-issued report supercedes this report and describes the revised data, together with the revised composition-property models (Kot et al. 2004). The reader should refer to the new report for discussion of the revised data set and composition-property (TCLP cadmium release) models. None of the data for the spike glasses, designed for Case 1 and Case 2 COPCs testing, were affected by this issue.)

Assessment of 180,182, 183,184,186 W Photonuclear Data

When electron beams from accelerators are stopped in thick targets made of materials with a high atomic number (or high-Z targets), they produce photons through braking radiation (commonly known as bremsstrahlung). The efficiency of photon production increases with the atomic number (Z). Tungsten is commonly chosen as a bremsstrahlung converter in both research and medical linear accelerators due to its high Z, large bremsstrahlung cross section, high melting point, and excellent thermal conductivity.

MONet/1000 Soils metagenome pathway modelling narrative w/ auto batch import

This narrative performs metabolic modeling and flux balance analysis (FBA) using metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from the 1000 Soils samples, as described by Song et al. (2026, accepted). The set of MAGs (in FASTA format) is converted into a set of assembly objects compatible with functional annotation via RASTtk, yielding a set of genome objects that undergo metabolic modeling via OMEGGA. These genome objects are then used to conduct FBA, generating tables of metabolite uptake rates across the MAGs under investigation.

Herbig–Haro Outflows in Circinus W

We report the discovery of new Herbig–Haro (HH) outflows in the Western Circinus molecular cloud. They were found using a color-composite imaging method that reveals faint Hα emission in complex environments. Follow-up observations in [S ii] confirmed their classification as HH objects. Nearly half of the newly discovered objects are part of the HH 76 outflow and are associated with a likely young stellar object (YSO) candidate. We also identify the source of a second outflow. Three newly discovered objects are part of a third outflow whose origin is unknown. Four more HH objects are also discovered, each of which has a location and morphology that does not suggest an origin. In total there must be at least five YSOs in the field currently producing outflows. The discovery of new HH objects and associated driving sources in this cloud complex provides more evidence for active star formation and a relatively young age in this seldom-studied region.

BVR{sub c}I{sub c} Observations, Third-body Orbital Study, and Analysis of the UV Leo-type, Pre-W UMA Binary V642 Virginis

V642 Vir is a polar spotted, well-detached, UV Leo-type, low-mass, pre-WUMa (T1 ~ 4250K, ~K6V) eclipsing binary. It was observed in 2020 April, May, and June at the Dark Sky Observatory in North Carolina, USA with the 0.81 m reflector of Appalachian State University. A total of 88 timings were used in our 22-year period study which included 12 Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) timings. The O - C plots show a low-amplitude oscillation of residuals that points to the existence of an orbiting third body, a dwarf of minimum mass, 0.15 M {sub ⊙} in an eccentric orbit (e = 0.41), with an orbital period of 20.07 yr. The odd light curves of V642 Virginis indicate that it has polar spots similar to UV Leo and the recently published V1023 Per. Its present large polar spot region indicates that it must have a strong magnetic field and that it is synchronously rotating. The BVR{sub c}I{sub c} simultaneous Wilson–Devinney Program solution gives a detached binary (primary and secondary components are underfilling their respective Roche Lobes, with 76% and 78% fill outs respectively). The cool spot region models near the pole of the primary component (centered at 10° colatitude) and is angled toward the secondary component. Its large radius (68°) and T-fact (T{sub spot}/T{sub surface} = 0.69) also attest to the conclusion of the strength of the magnetic field. The small ΔT in the components (~318 K) and mass ratio near unity (0.9542 ± 0.0005) show that the stars are similar in spectral type (secondary ~K9V). The inclination is high, ~86.87 ± 0.04°, yet there is no time of constant light due to the two stars’ essentially equal radii.

PROTOCALC, a W -band Polarized Calibrator for Cosmic Microwave Background Telescopes: Application to Simons Observatory and CLASS

Current- and next-generation cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments will measure polarization anisotropies with unprecedented sensitivities. The need for high precision in these measurements underscores the importance of gaining a comprehensive understanding of instrument properties, with a particular emphasis on the study of the beam properties, and especially their polarization characteristics and the measurement of the polarization angle. In this context, a major challenge lies in the scarcity of millimeter polarized astrophysical sources with sufficient brightness and calibration knowledge to meet the stringent accuracy requirements of future CMB missions. This led to the development of a drone-borne calibration source designed for the frequency band centered on approximately 90 GHz, matching a commonly used channel in ground-based CMB measurements. The Prototype Calibrator for Cosmology, PROTOCALC, has undergone thorough in-lab testing, and its properties have been subsequently modeled through simulation software integrated into the standard Simons Observatory analysis pipeline. Moreover, the PROTOCALC system has been tested in the field, having been deployed twice on calibration campaigns with CMB telescopes in the Atacama Desert. The data collected constrain the roll angle of the source with a statistical accuracy of 0$^°_•$045.
