WREF Field Profiling Lidar-773 / Raw Data

The field profiling lidar #ZX300-773 was deployed on the ground in an open field 880 m south of the Wind River NEON tower in summer 2025. It was co-located with LLNL's Halo XR+ scanning lidar (z05) and Argonne's Waggle Node to capture mountain-valley flows during the warm summer season. The zip files contain high frequency data. The excel files are 10-min averages.

WREF 3D Sonic Anemometer - Tower A / Raw Data

Tower A is one of four subcanopy towers that were installed in the WREF canopy across a transect distance of 200m. Tower A had two CSAT3-3D sonics mounted at a height of 2.7m a.g.l. One (A1) is facing 290 degrees; the second (A2) is facing 90 degrees. The towers were installed to observe flow just above the forest floor and to identify any advection flows in the canopy. These data were also part of a larger ICOS project looking at forest flow coupling/decoupling with tower sites in Italy and Czech Republic.

Event Log / Raw Data

The WFIP3 event log is a curated record spanning 578 days of meteorological phenomena and field observations that complements the campaign’s high-frequency measurements. The log combines manually documented daily weather discussions with automatically derived indicators of key atmospheric processes, providing standardized, publicly available context to support model evaluation, forecast verification, and case-study selection for offshore boundary-layer research.

In Search of Optimum Fresh-Cut Raw Material: Using Computer Vision Systems as a Sensory Screening Tool for Browning-Resistant Romaine Lettuce Accessions

The popularity of ready-to-eat (RTE) salads has prompted novel technology to prolong the shelf life of their ingredients. Fresh-cut romaine lettuce is widely used in RTE salads; however, its tendency to quickly discolor continues to be a challenge for the industry. Selecting the ideal lettuce accessions for use in RTE salads is essential to ensure maximum shelf life, and it is critical to have a practical way to assess and compare the quality of multiple lettuce accessions that are being considered for use in fresh-cut applications. Thus, in this work we aimed to determine whether a computer vision system (CVS) composed of image acquisition, processing, and analysis could be effective to detect visual quality differences among 16 accessions of fresh-cut romaine lettuce during postharvest storage. The CVS involved a post-capturing color correction, effective image segmentation, and calculation of a browning index, which was tested as a predictor of quality and shelf life of fresh-cut romaine lettuce. The results demonstrated that machine vision software can be implemented to replace or supplement the scoring of a trained panel and instrumental quality measurements. Overall visual quality, a key sensory parameter that determines food preferences and consumer behavior, was highly correlated with the browning index, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of −0.85. Other important sensory decision parameters were also strongly or moderately correlated with the browning index, with Pearson correlation coefficients of −0.84 for freshness, 0.79 for off odor, and 0.57 for browning. The ranking of the accessions according to quality acceptability from the sensory evaluation produced a similar pattern to those obtained with the CVS. This study revealed that multiple lettuce accessions can be effectively benchmarked for their performance as fresh-cut sources via a CVS-based method. Future opportunities and challenges in using machine vision image processing to predict consumer preferences for RTE salad greens is also discussed.

Ice Nucleating Particles (INP) Raw Data

The ice nucleation spectrometer (INS) is an offline analytical measurement system used to process filter samples for freezing temperature spectra of immersion-mode ice-nucleating particle (INP) number concentrations. It is almost identical to the Colorado State University (CSU) ice spectrometer design. Filter samples are collected at ARM facilities routinely and during intensive operational periods, and on the ARM tethered balloon system operated by Sandia National Laboratories, then processed on the INS at CSU. This filter log contains the detailed metadata at all ARM sites where INP filter sample collection has occurred or is currently ongoing. Metadata include start and end times, vacuum line pressures and temperatures, and flow rates; total accumulated flow through each filter; and notes on collection issues or weather conditions. Users can also keep up to date with the status of filter and data processing, even before data are available on ARM's Data Discovery. Users can contact INP mentors Jessie Creamean or Thomas Hill with any questions.
