This study will look at the 140 We class generator as originally envisioned for the ASRG and a larger generator that is scaled up to use four times the fuel. The results discussed below quantify the effect of the use of smaller generators and indicates that a scheme that makes use of several smaller generators enhances the system reliability and allows for more graceful degradation.
NASA's dynamic power convertor development in support of high-efficiency RPS is progressing as planned, and shows promise. This presentation gives dynamic conversion power system background, development path, and key convertor performance goals. It also gives information on the Flexure Isotope Stirling Convertor, Turbo-Brayton Convertor, Thermo-Acoustic Power Convertor, Sunpower Robust Stirling Convertor, Stirling Convertor Extended Operation, TDC #14 Disassembly and Inspection, and Launch Vibration Exposure on SES #2.
A one slide presentation/poster on Dynamic RPS development and potential utilization.

The purpose of this report is to provide an initial reference document to support further definition of science community needs for small-RPS flight systems. It describes the most recent results of the ongoing NASA/DOE studies, and provides information for review by potential users that might take advantage of these types of power systems. This is extremely important since any future decision to proceed with the development of such units will require a strong identified need from the space science community and a well-defined set of power and operational requirements. NASA and DOE intend to use this document as a basis for soliciting information on additional small-RPS-enabled mission concepts, along with their respective power and operational requirements. This report is a first step in fleshing out a roadmap for potential future development and acquisition.
Power generation in extreme environments, such as the outer solar system, the night side of planets, or other low-illumination environments, currently presents a technology gap that challenges NASA's ambitious scientific goals.
