Search for two-body B meson decays to Λ 0 and Ω c ( * ) 0

We report the results of the first search for Standard Model and baryon-number-violating two-body decays of the neutral B mesons to Λ 0 and Ω c ( * ) 0 using 711 fb − 1 of data collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We observe no evidence of signal from any such decays and set 95% confidence-level upper limits on the products of B 0 and B ¯ 0 branching fractions for these two-body decays with B ( Ω c 0 → π + Ω − ) in the range between 9.5 × 10 − 8 and 31.2 × 10 − 8 . Search for the e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) process at BESIII

Based on 368.5 p b − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies 4.914 and 4.946 GeV by the BESIII detector, the e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) process is searched for the first time. No significant signal is observed and the upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the product of the Born cross section σ ( e + e − → ϕ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) ) and the branching fraction B [ χ c 1 ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ] at 4.914 and 4.946 GeV are set to be 0.85 and 0.96 pb, respectively. These measurements provide useful information for the production of the χ c 1 ( 3872 ) at e + e − colliders and deepen our understanding about the nature of this particle. Search for the decay B 0 → γ γ using Belle and Belle II data

We report the result of a search for the rare decay B 0 → γ γ using a combined dataset of 753 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and 387 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance produced in e + e − collisions. A simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields 11.0 − 5.5 + 6.5 signal events, corresponding to a 2.5 σ significance. We determine the branching fraction B ( B 0 → γ γ ) = ( 3.7 − 1.8 + 2.2 ( stat ) ± 0.5 ( syst ) ) × 10 − 8 and set a 90% credibility level upper limit of B ( B 0 → γ γ ) < 6.4 × 10 − 8 . Search for charged-lepton flavor violation in the production and decay of top quarks using trilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ =13 TeV

A search is performed for charged-lepton flavor violating processes in top quark (𝑡) production and decay. The data were collected by the CMS experiment from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb −1 . The selected events are required to contain one opposite-sign electron-muon pair, a third charged lepton (electron or muon), and at least one jet of which no more than one is associated with a bottom quark. Boosted decision trees are used to distinguish signal from background, exploiting differences in the kinematics of the final states particles. The data are consistent with the standard model expectation. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are placed in the context of effective field theory on the Wilson coefficients, which range between 0.024–0.424 TeV −2 depending on the flavor of the associated light quark and the Lorentz structure of the interaction. These limits are converted to upper limits on branching fractions involving up (charm) quarks, 𝑡 → 𝑒⁢𝜇⁢𝑢 (𝑡 → 𝑒⁢𝜇⁢𝑐), of 0.032⁢(0.498) × 10 −6 , 0.022⁢(0.369) × 10 −6 , and 0.012⁢(0.216) × 10 −6 for tensorlike, vectorlike, and scalarlike interactions, respectively.

Search for charged Higgs bosons produced in top-quark decays or in association with top quarks and decaying via H±→τ±ντ in 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

Charged Higgs bosons produced either in top-quark decays or in association with a top quark, subsequently decaying via , are searched for in of proton-proton collision data at recorded with the ATLAS detector. Depending on whether the top quark is produced together with the decays hadronically or semileptonically, the search targets or final states, in both cases with a -lepton decaying into a neutrino and hadrons. No significant excess over the Standard Model background expectation is observed. For the mass range of , upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of the charged Higgs boson times the branching fraction in the range 4.5 pb–0.4 fb. In the mass range 80–160 GeV, assuming the Standard Model cross section for production, this corresponds to upper limits between 0.27% and 0.02% on .

Joint explanation of the B → π K puzzle and the B → K ν ν ¯ excess

In light of the recent branching fraction measurement of the B + → K + ν ν ¯ decay by Belle II and its poor agreement with the Standard Model expectation, we analyze the effects of an axionlike particle (ALP) in B meson decays. We assume a long-lived ALP with a mass of the order of the pion mass that decays to two photons. We focus on a scenario where the ALP decay length is of the order of meters such that the ALP has a non-negligible probability to decay outside the detector volume of Belle II, mimicking the B + → K + ν ν ¯ signal. Remarkably, such an arrangement is also relevant for the long-standing B → π K puzzle by noting that the measured B 0 → π 0 K 0 and B + → π 0 K + decays could have a B 0 → a K 0 and B + → a K + component, respectively. We also argue based on our results that the required ALP-photon effective coupling belongs to a region of parameter space that can be extensively probed in future beam dump experiments like SHiP. Observation of the decay ψ ( 3686 ) → Σ 0 Σ ¯ 0 ω

Using a dataset of ( 27.12 ± 0.14 ) × 10 8 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observation of the decay ψ ( 3686 ) → Σ 0 Σ ¯ 0 ω with a statistical significance of 8.9 σ . Study of light-meson resonances decaying to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study is presented of B + → K S 0 K − π + K + and B + → K S 0 K + π − K + decays based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The K S 0 K π invariant-mass distributions of both B + decay modes show, in the m ( K S 0 K π ) < 1.85 GeV mass region, large activity which is resolved using an amplitude analysis. A simple model, where J P C amplitudes are described by multiple Breit-Wigner functions with appropriate angular distributions, provides a good description of the experimental data. In this approach a complex mixture of J P C = 0 − + , 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes is observed that is dominated by η ( 1405 ) , η ( 1470 ) , η ( 1760 ) , f 1 ( 1285 ) , f 1 ( 1420 ) and h 1 ( 1405 ) resonances. The K S 0 K π Dalitz plots are dominated by asymmetric crossing K * K ¯ bands which are different for the two B + decay modes. This is due to a different interference pattern between the 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes in the two channels. Branching fractions are measured for each resonant contribution. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Search for heavy neutral resonances decaying to tau lepton pairs in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV

A search for heavy neutral gauge bosons (𝑍′) decaying into a pair of tau leptons is performed in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ =13 TeV at the CERN LHC. The data were collected with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb −1 . The observations are found to be in agreement with the expectation from standard model processes. Limits at 95% confidence level are set on the product of the 𝑍′ production cross section and its branching fraction to tau lepton pairs for a range of 𝑍′ boson masses. For a narrow resonance in the sequential standard model scenario, a 𝑍′ boson with a mass below 3.5 TeV is excluded. This is the most stringent limit to date from this type of search.

Search for a massless dark photon in c → u γ ′ decays

Using 7.9 f b − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at s = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the massless dark photon with the flavor-changing neutral current processes D 0 → ω γ ′ and D 0 → γ γ ′ for the first time. No significant signals are observed, and the upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the massless dark photon branching fraction are set to be 1.1 × 10 − 5 and 2.0 × 10 − 6 for D 0 → ω γ ′ and D 0 → γ γ ′ , respectively. These results provide the most stringent constraint on the new physics energy scale associated with c u γ ′ coupling in the world, with the new physics energy scale related parameter | C | 2 + | C 5 | 2 < 8.2 × 10 − 17 GeV − 2 at the 90% confidence level. Observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0

Utilizing 4.5 fb − 1 of e + e − annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, the first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0 is presented, with a statistical significance of 5.4 σ . The ratio of the branching fractions of Λ c + → p π 0 and Λ c + → p η is measured as B ( Λ c + → p π 0 ) / B ( Λ c + → p η ) = ( 0.120 ± 0.02 6 stat ± 0.00 7 syst ) . This result resolves the longstanding discrepancy between earlier experimental searches, providing both a decisive conclusion and valuable input for QCD-inspired theoretical models. A sophisticated deep learning approach using a Transformer-based architecture is employed to distinguish the signal from the prevalent hadronic backgrounds, complemented by thorough validation and systematic uncertainty quantification. Test of lepton flavor universality in semileptonic 𝐵$^+_𝑐$ meson decays in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{𝑠}$ = 13 TeV

A measurement of the ratio of branching fractions 𝑅⁢(𝐽/𝜓) =ℬ⁡(𝐵$^+_𝑐$ →𝐽/𝜓⁢𝜏 + ⁢𝜈 𝜏 )/ℬ⁡(𝐵$^+_𝑐$ →𝐽/𝜓⁢𝜇 + ⁢𝜈 𝜇 ) in the 𝐽/𝜓 →𝜇 + ⁢𝜇 − , 𝜏 + →𝜇 + ⁢𝜈 𝜇 ⁢$\bar{𝜈}$ 𝜏 decay channel is presented. This measurement uses a sample of proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the CMS experiment in 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 59.7 fb −1 . The measured ratio, 𝑅⁢(𝐽/𝜓) = 0.1⁢7$^{+0.18}_{−0.17}⁢$(stat)$^{+0.21}_{−0.22⁢}$(syst)$^{+0.19}_{−0.18}$⁢(theo) =0.17 ± 0.33, agrees with the value of 0.2582 ± 0.0038 predicted by the standard model, which assumes lepton flavor universality. By testing lepton flavor universality, this measurement is a probe of new physics using 𝐵$^+_𝑐$ mesons, which are currently only produced at the LHC.

The first observation of the t t ¯ H process in a single Higgs boson decay channel with the full reconstruction of the final state ( H → γ γ ) is presented, with a significance of 6.6 standard deviations ( σ ). The C P structure of Higgs boson couplings to fermions is measured, resulting in an exclusion of the pure C P -odd structure of the top Yukawa coupling at 3.2 σ . The measurements are based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s = 13 TeV collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb – 1 . The cross section times branching fraction of the t t ¯ H process is measured to be σ t t ¯ H B γ γ = 1.56 – 0.32 + 0.34 fb , which is compatible with the standard model prediction of 1.13 – 0.11 + 0.08 fb . The fractional contribution of the C P -odd component is measured to be f C P H t t = 0.00 ± 0.33 .

Observation of the B$^0_\mathrm{s}\to $X(3872)$\phi$ decay

Using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment in 2016–2018, the Bs0→X(3872)ϕ decay is observed. Decays into J/ψπ+π− and K+K- are used to reconstruct, respectively, the X(3872) and ϕ. The ratio of the product of branching fractions B[Bs0→X(3872)ϕ]B[X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−] to the product B[Bs0→ψ(2S)ϕ]B[ψ(2S)→J/ψπ+π−] is measured to be [2.21±0.29(stat)±0.17(syst)]%. The ratio B[Bs0→X(3872)ϕ]/B[B0→X(3872)K0] is found to be consistent with one, while the ratio B[Bs0→X(3872)ϕ]/B[B+→X(3872)K+] is two times smaller. This suggests a difference in the production dynamics of the X(3872) in B0 and Bs0 meson decays compared to B+. The reported observation may shed new light on the nature of the X(3872) particle.

Test of Light-Lepton Universality in the Rates of Inclusive Semileptonic B-Meson Decays at Belle II

In events where the partner B meson is fully reconstructed, we use fits to the lepton momentum spectra above 1.3 GeV / c to obtain R ( X e / μ ) = 1.007 ± 0.009 ( stat ) ± 0.019 ( syst ) , which is the most precise lepton-universality test of its kind and agrees with the standard-model expectation.

Search for a τ + τ - Resonance in e + e - → μ + μ - τ + τ - Events with the Belle II Experiment

We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into $τ$ pairs in $e^+e^-$ → $μ^+μ^-τ^+τ^-$ events in the 3.6–10 GeV/c 2 mass range. We use a 62.8 fb -1 sample of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into $τ$ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/c 2 and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.
