Selected color photographs of Jupiter taken with the 154-cm Catalina reflector from October 1965 to September 1973 are presented. Eight oppositions are covered showing the developments in cloud belt structure and color distribution of the Jovian atmosphere.

The fundamental aim of this experiment was the acquisition of ultraviolet photographs of the earth and the moon that could be used to interpret similar imagery of Mars and Venus. Venus shows no markings whatever when viewed in visible light, a phenomenon that is in keeping with its immensely thick atmosphere and perpetual cloud cover, but in the near ultraviolet, the planet exhibits low contrast markings which vary in position and appearance with time. Mars posed just the opposite problem from Venus at wavelengths below 4500 A, Mars shows very little detail, sometimes none at all, whereas at longer wavelengths, the surface is clearly visible. Occasionally observers have reported that this obscuration has lifted and the ground has become visible at the shorter wavelengths as well. Such events have been labeled blue clearings and led to the suggestion that the ultraviolet obscuration was caused by an atmospheric haze. Mariner 6 and 7 observations of Mars failed to find such a haze and lent support to the alternative view that ascribed the absence of detail on UV photographs to a simple lack of contrast between Martian surface features at these wavelengths.

Sun elevation angle effects on repeatability, using Apollo 15 photographs are analyzed and results extended to slope related effects. Preliminary results indicate repeatibility of elevation measurement is related to contrast in the stereoscopic image.
Polarized and red- and blue-filter photographs of zodiacal light obtained by Apollo 17 are analyzed. Attempts were made to identify the cause of subtle change in the observed light and determine the dust composition of the light. A comparison of red and blue images indicates such changes may be caused by particle size distribution and range, number of particles along any given line of sight, particle surface characteristics including dielectric compared to metallic properties, and variations of the parameters as a function of distance from the sun.
An analysis was made of Apollo 17 solar corona photographs in an effort to identify coronal streamers observed from earth. The photographs corroborate earth based observations; moreover, visual observations made by the Apollo crew indicate clearly identifiable streamers which extend to approximately 100 solar radii.

Jupiter and Saturn were photographed with narrow-bandwidth interference filters from 3000 to 9200A and in the 1-2 micron region with an infrared-sensitive vidicon. Changes with wavelength are noted in the limb darkening and surface detail.

A methodology was developed to evaluate multispectral analysis of orbital imagery on the interpretation of geology, coastal geomorphology and sedimentary processes. The images analyzed were obtained during the pass of ERTS satellite over the center region of Venezuela on October 19, 1972. ERTS-1 multispectral images in black and white paper copies and transparencies of the 4 bands and false color composites at scales of 1:1,000,000 and 1:500,000 were interpreted. Lithology and outcrop patterns of the following geological formations have been interpreted: igneous and metamorphic basement of Cocodite and Santa Ana, Jurassic-Cretaceous metamorphics of Pueblo Nuevo, Cantaure Miocene-Pliocene sediments, and Quaternary alluvium, dunes, beach ridges, bars and reefs. A prominent and extensive Paraguana tonal anomaly shaped as an 8 has been discovered at the NW of the Peninsula. Its erosional origin has exposed light toned lower beds at the center, with additional evidence of topographic depression and development of underground drainage of karst origin. Coastal geomorphology, its processes and energy has been interpreted with the help of wind direction analysis (ENE-WSW) at sea level through the orientation of transported materials (water vapor, water and sediments) by clouds, waves, sea current, plumes of suspended sediments associated to river outlets, dunes, sediment sources and shore-line orientation.

The data was thoroughly researched using the Times Index-Gazetteer of the World, the Times Atlas of the World, and the National Atlas of the United States of America to ensure correct spelling and location of named features. The spelling and major geographical features applied to smaller features (minor) such as cities, towns, mountain peaks, etc., are in accordance with these publications. It is understood that some political boundaries and names of countries are subject to change. The data was written on NASA keypunch transmittal sheets and punched into data cards. These data cards were then machine sorted alphabetically by major feature and minor feature.
Photographs taken on Apollo 16 before, during, and after a water dump were analyzed for residual background brightness, particle dynamics, and time decay of background brightness. No conclusive results were obtained because of the illumination of the windows or window openings by extraneous light sources.
