Effects of the Stark Shift on the Evolution of the Field Entropy and Entanglement in the Two-Photon Jaynes-Cummings Model

The evolution of the field entropy in the two-photon JCM in the presence of the Stark shift is investigated, and the effects of the dynamic Stark shift on the evolution of the field entropy and entanglement between the atom and field, are examined. The results show that the dynamic Stark shift plays an important role in the evolution of the field entropy in two-photon processes.

Parameter Estimation with Entangled Photons Produced by Parametric Down-Conversion

We explore the advantages offered by twin light beams produced in parametric down-conversion for precision measurement. The symmetry of these bipartite quantum states, even under losses, suggests that monitoring correlations between the divergent beams permits a high-precision inference of any symmetry-breaking effect, e.g., fiber birefringence. We show that the quantity of entanglement is not the key feature for such an instrument. In a lossless setting, scaling of precision at the ultimate "Heisenberg" limit is possible with photon counting alone. Even as photon losses approach 100% the precision is shot-noise limited, and we identify the crossover point between quantum and classical precision as a function of detected flux. The predicted hypersensitivity is demonstrated with a Bayesian simulation.

Control Implemented on Quantum Computers: Effects of Noise, Non-Determinism, and Entanglement

Quantum computing has advanced in recent years to the point that there are now some quantum computers and quantum simulators available to the public for use. In addition, quantum computing is beginning to receive attention within the process systems engineering community for directions such as machine learning and optimization. A logical next step for its evaluation within process systems engineering is for control, specifically, for computing control actions to be applied to process systems. In this work, we provide some initial studies regarding the implementation of control on quantum computers, including the implementation of a single-input/single-output proportional control law on a quantum simulator with noise, evaluation of potential impacts of non-determinism on theory for advanced control laws, and discussion of consequences of the way that entanglement works for next-generation manufacturing communication objectives.

Entanglement between a muon spin and $I>\frac{1}{2}$ nuclear spins

We report on the first example of quantum coherence between the spins of muons and quadrupolar nuclei. We observe this effect in vanadium intermetallic compounds which adopt the A15 crystal structure, and whose members include all technologically dominant superconductors. The entangled states are extremely sensitive to the local structural and electronic environments through the electric field gradient at the quadrupolar nuclei. This case-study demonstrates that positive muons can be used as a quantum sensing tool to probe also structural and charge related phenomena in materials, even in the absence of magnetic order.

Characterization and Engineering of Entangled Spatial modes in Four-wave Mixing

We show the presence of a large number of pairwise-entangled spatial modes generated in four-wave mixing by calculating the spatial Schmidt spectrum from the experimentally reconstructed two-photon amplitude. By manipulating the input pump momentum, we demonstrate a modification of the spatial Schmidt modes.
