Electrophoretic Deposition on Porous Non-Conductors

A method of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) on substrates that are porous and electrically non-conductive has been invented. Heretofore, in order to perform an EPD, it has been necessary to either (1) use a substrate material that is inherently electrically conductive or (2) subject a non-conductive substrate to a thermal and/or chemical treatment to render it conductive. In the present method, instead of relying on the electrical conductivity of the substrate, one ensures that the substrate is porous enough that when it is immersed in an EPD bath, the solvent penetrates throughout the thickness, thereby forming quasi-conductive paths through the substrate. By making it unnecessary to use a conductive substrate, this method simplifies the overall EPD process and makes new applications possible. The method is expected to be especially beneficial in enabling deposition of layers of ceramic and/or metal for chemical and electrochemical devices, notably including solid oxide fuel cells.

Sensitivity Effects of High Temperature Overhead Conductors to Line Rating Variables

IEEE/CIGRE standards provide a base for overhead transmission line ratings Steady State Ampacity industry standard for Static Ratings using conservative environmental assumptions Measurement of many types of sensors provide a possibility to provide more capacity as a time varying capability Direct sensors of line temperature, tension, or sag provide critical, location specific information. Require complex transformation to determine line ampacity rating Are direct measurements sensors placed at key location(s)? Testing and careful calibration of sensors required Need to understand impact of uncertainties on sensors/measurements/ and forecasts

Dual conductor surface modified SOFC cathode particles and methods of making same

A novel method to produce ALD films disposed on powders is disclosed. Examples include the formation of a cobalt doped zirconia (CDZ), hafnia, and cobalt doped hafnia (CDH) films on lanthanum strontium cobalt iron oxide (LSCF) powder for solid oxide fuel cell cathodes. The coated powders are sintered into porous cathodes that have utility for preventing the migration of cations in the powder to the surface of the sintered cathode and/or other performance enhancing attributes.

Unified conductor to lower the resistance between a planar transformer and one or more inductors

An apparatus is provided including a transformer including a first printed circuit board having one or more conducting layers, the one or more conducting layers forming, at least in part, a transformer coil; at least one inductor; and at least one continuous piece of conducting material external to the printed circuit board, where the at least one continuous piece of conducting material forms a connection between the transformer and the at least one inductor. A method is also provided for assembling a switched-mode power supply.
