A measurement of the fast luminescent decay time of P-15 phosphor

During the development of a delayed coincidence apparatus for the study of atomic decays, the need arose for a bright, fast, and inexpensive light source with known decay characteristics. A sample of P-15 phosphor was obtained for use as a calibration light source. A short pulse duration was employed to preferentially excite the short lifetime components relative to the longer-lived ones. The computer analysis revealed that the raw MCA decay curve data could be described well by a sum of three exponentials with decay times of about 88 nsec, about 6.5 nsec, and 1.04 + or - 2%.

Flight data systems using LSI P-channel MOSFETS

Continuing development and expansion of a series of P-channel MOSFET circuits in flight data systems is reported. Using hybrid thick film techniques, these circuits evolved into bugs with more than 1000 transistors on a chip. A proposed data system for Helios satellite will have approximately 130 bugs and a semiconductor count of more than 100,000, will weigh less than 1 N and use less than 1.2 W.

Orthopyroxene and orthopyroxene-bearing rock fragments rich in K, REE, and P in Apollo 14 soil sample 14163.

Orthopyroxene of various compositions are reported in the less than 1 mm fines in lunar soil sample 14163. The mineral occurs as individual grains and as a major and minor constituent in lithic fragments. K is not positively correlated with REE and P in the orthopyroxene-containing igneous rock fragments studied. Although an X-ray powder pattern of the rare earth element containing calcium phosphate is that of whitlockite, it is tentatively concluded that the weak pattern observed results from an intimate admixture of a major amount of an amorphous phosphate of unknown composition with a lesser amount of crystalline whitlockite.
