1990 CATS Household Travel Survey

The Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) 1990 Household Travel Survey was a self-administered mail-out mail-back survey. The purpose of the study was to update existing data on travel patterns and characteristics of Chicago residents. CATS surveyed the region on a county-by-county basis with the Chicago Central Business District in collaboration with the Urban Transportation Center of the University of Illinois. The study gathered demographic and travel behavior data from residents of northeastern Illinois who were 14 years old or older. 19,314 households participated in the survey. The study focused on non-work travel by motorized vehicle and by foot, and residents recorded their trips on a single travel day. Transportation-related variables include trip origin and destination, trip purpose, travel time, mode of travel used, vehicle occupancy, and walking distance (if that transit mode was involved).

1996 Bay Area Travel Study Wave 2

The 1996 Bay Area Travel Study, conducted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commssion, collected demographic, socioeconomic, and travel data for 3,618 households in California's nine-county Bay Area: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. The goal of the study was to collect information on activities for all people in each household, regardless of age or relationship. Respondents were asked to record all activities, including trips, over a two-day period. The data gathered during the survey will be used for the area's long-term transportation and air quality planning needs. The survey collected both weekday and weekend multi-day data and was the first activity-based survey conducted in the Bay Area. It also included separate sub-projects. A stated preference congestion pricing survey was administered to 150 of the respondents with a follow-up survey conducted with 110 participants. A follow-up survey was also completed by over half of the 3,618 respondent households to update contact and demographic information. These participants were then used as a panel sample for the 2000 Bay Area Travel Survey (NuStats Research and Consulting 1999).

Individual Motorist Data - Ohio EV Ownership Trends

The individual motorist dataset contains data and analysis of consumer electric vehicle (EV) ownership trends in rural Appalachian Ohio in comparison with statewide trends. The data span four years, from Q1 2020 to Q2 2023 (partial). They are sourced from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles registration records and contain detail on drivetrain type (battery-electric vehicle [BEV] or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle [PHEV]); specific vehicle make and model; and registration location at county, city, and ZIP code levels of spatial resolution. Registration data are analyzed at the county level against such indicators as median income, poverty status, urban-rural status, and density of public charging infrastructure. In addition to tabular data, a GIS shapefile with many analysis fields joined is included.

2022 Central California Travel Study

# 2022 Central California Travel Study The 2022 Central California Travel Study collected demographic and travel pattern information to better understand household travel behavior in the state’s San Joaquin Valley region. ## Data Collection Agency The Fresno Council of Governments conducted the household travel study in collaboration with metropolitan planning organizations in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tulare counties in California. ## Survey Methodology The two-part study consisted of a survey and a travel diary. The survey gathered data on household demographic composition and typical travel behaviors. The travel diary gathered individual travel data during a specified travel period for all members of a given household. ## Travel Diary Methods Households with smartphones were encouraged to complete their travel diaries using the rMove smartphone app for up to seven consecutive days. Households without smartphones or those unwilling to participate via smartphone completed their travel diaries online (using the web-version of rMove) or by calling the survey call center. These households reported travel for one day (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday). ## Recruitment Sampling Methods The majority of the recruitment was conducted via address-based sampling, a type of probability sampling, with a focus on reaching county-level targets in collaboration with metropolitan planning organizations in the region. Supplemental sampling methods, primarily non-probability, were employed during all waves of data collection to improve survey representation. The supplemental sample included targeted outreach to hard-to-survey populations via transit rider email lists; local housing authorities; Nichols Research, a California-based market research firm; and the Ipsos™ KnowledgePanel, an online random probability panel. See the documentation for more information about sampling and weighting. ## Survey Records, Data, and Documentation In total, 7,406 households completed 19,084 surveys representing 150,012 trips across 42,567 person-days.
