Fast response densitometer for measuring liquid density

Densitometer was developed which produces linear voltage proportional to changes in density of flowing liquid hydrogen. Unit has fast response time and good system stability, statistical variation, and thermal equilibrium. System accuracy is 2 percent of total density span. Basic design may be altered to include measurement of other flowing materials.

A measurement of the fast luminescent decay time of P-15 phosphor

During the development of a delayed coincidence apparatus for the study of atomic decays, the need arose for a bright, fast, and inexpensive light source with known decay characteristics. A sample of P-15 phosphor was obtained for use as a calibration light source. A short pulse duration was employed to preferentially excite the short lifetime components relative to the longer-lived ones. The computer analysis revealed that the raw MCA decay curve data could be described well by a sum of three exponentials with decay times of about 88 nsec, about 6.5 nsec, and 1.04 + or - 2%.

Fast response solar array simulator

Tradeoff studies to determine the design requirements for a fast response solar array simulator capable of delivering output power in the range of 20 to 5000 watts are reported. The studies were divided into four major areas: frequency and transient response considerations, digital versus analog characteristic generation and programming, optimum power module size, and accuracy considerations. Based on an evaluation of the tradeoffs, a reference design was selected with a forward biased solar cell as an analog reference, and with current accuracy of + or - 0.5% of the short circuit setting.

A fast electron gun for study of atomic decays

A fast electron gun with subanosecond rise- and decay-times and 100 ma. peak beam current has been developed for delayed coincidence studies of atomic decays. The gun is fabricated from an inexpensive tetrode Nuvistor, involving only slight modification.
