Phase change material thermal power generator

An energy producing device, for example a submersible vehicle for descending or ascending to different depths within water or ocean, is disclosed. The vehicle comprises a temperature-responsive material to which a hydraulic fluid is associated. A pressurized storage compartment stores the fluid as soon as the temperature-responsive material changes density. The storage compartment is connected with a hydraulic motor, and a valve allows fluid passage from the storage compartment to the hydraulic motor. An energy storage component, e.g. a battery, is connected with the hydraulic motor and is charged by the hydraulic motor when the hydraulic fluid passes through the hydraulic motor. Upon passage in the hydraulic motor, the fluid is stored in a further storage compartment and is then sent back to the area of the temperature-responsive material.

An IR Investigation of Solid Amorphous Ethanol-Spectra, Properties, and Phase Changes

Mid- and far-infrared spectra of condensed ethanol (CH3CH2OH) at 10-160 K are presented, with a special focus on amorphous ethanol, the form of greatest astrochemical interest, and with special attention given to changes at 155-160 K. Infrared spectra of amorphous and crystalline forms are shown. The refractive index at 670 nm of amorphous ethanol at 16 K is reported, along with three IR band strengths and a density. A comparison is made to recent work on the isoelectronic compound ethanethiol (CH3CH2SH), and several astrochemical applications are suggested for future study.

Debris Avoidance and Phase Change Maneuvers in Near Rectilinear Halo Orbits

Over the course of its lifetime, Ga teway may execute excursions from itsba seline NRHO that include short-lead maneuvers to avoid other spacecraft or debris objects or long-lea d rephasing within the NRHO to support rendezvous or other mission objectives. The dynamical cha racteristics of the NRHO a re distinct from those of low Ea rth a nd low luna r orbits due to the simulta neous gra vitational influences of the Ea rth a nd Moon. Thus, new a pproaches for executing debris a voidance ma neuvers a nd repha sing ma neuversa re necessary. The current investiga tion proposesmethods for designing low-cost DAMs with short-lead pla nning time a s well a s rephasing maneuvers with many months of advance notice.

Bi-directional porous media phase change heat exchanger

Heat exchange structure. A hydrophilic, thermally conductive porous medium includes nanostructures formed substantially uniformly throughout the porous medium providing a balance of capillary and viscous forces to self-regulate a liquid-vapor contact line. A suitable porous medium is copper. A method for making the structure is also disclosed.
