Developments in the fields of semiconductors and magnetics are surveyed. Materials, devices, theory, and fabrication technology are discussed. Important events up until the present time are reported, and events are interpreted through historical perspective. A brief analysis of forces which have driven the development of today's electronic technology and some projections of present trends are given. More detailed discussions are presented for four areas of contemporary interest: amorphous semiconductors, bubble domain devices, charge-coupled devices, and electron and ion beam techniques. Beam addressed magnetic memories are reviewed to a lesser extent.
Recent trends in turbine aerodynamics are summarized. Areas discussed include cooled turbine aerodynamics, high work factor turbines, pneumatic variable geometry, and computer analyses.
Brief description of some of the recent trends in turbine aerodynamics research. Areas covered include cooled turbine aerodynamics, high work-factor turbines, pneumatic variable geometry, and computer analysis. Most of this research is shown to have been directed primarily toward allowing the turbine to accept efficiently higher inlet temperatures and blade loading.
Data are analyzed, and trends and issues are discussed to provide information useful to the systems designer who wishes to identify and assess the opportunities for large scale electronic delivery in vocational/technical and adult education. Issues connected with vocational/technical education are investigated, with emphasis on those issues in the current spotlight which are relevant to the possibilities of electronic delivery. The current role of media is examined in vocational/technical instruction.
A survey of avionics onboard present commercial transport aircraft was conducted to identify trends in avionics systems characteristics and to determine the impact of technology advances on equipment weight, cost, reliability, and maintainability. Transport aircraft avionics systems are described under the headings of communication, navigation, flight control, and instrumentation. The equipment included in each section is described functionally. However, since more detailed descriptions of the equipment can be found in other sources, the description is limited and emphasis is put on configuration requirements. Since airborne avionics systems must interface with ground facilities, certain ground facilities are described as they relate to the airborne systems, with special emphasis on air traffic control and all-weather landing capability.
This study is part of a broader investigation of the role of large-scale educational telecommunications systems. Thus, data are analyzed and trends and issues discussed to provide information useful to the systems designer who wishes to identify and assess the opportunities for large-scale electronic delivery of education for the handicapped.
