Summary

University of California activities in the development of remote sensing techniques and their application in the study of water resources within the state are summarized. It is pointed out that the summary is very lengthy due to fact that NASA had requested a dramatic reorientation of the study. For this reason it was felt that the co-investigators and other participants, need a rather detailed and systematic tabulation of the relevant facts that have been uncovered during the period since the reorientation.

DORMAN computer program (study 2.5). Volume 1: Executive summary

The DORCA Applications study has been directed at development of a data bank management computer program identified as DORMAN. Because of the size of the DORCA data files and the manipulations required on that data to support analyses with the DORCA program, automated data techniques to replace time-consuming manual input generation are required. The Dynamic Operations Requirements and Cost Analysis (DORCA) program was developed for use by NASA in planning future space programs. Both programs are designed for implementation on the UNIVAC 1108 computing system. The purpose of this Executive Summary Report is to define for the NASA management the basic functions of the DORMAN program and its capabilities.

A summary of major NASA launchings, 1 October 1958 - 30 September 1973

This report was compiled from several different sources. Documents consulted included: Operations Summaries, post-launch Flash Flight Reports, Final Field Reports, Mission Operations Reports (both pre-launch and post-launch), and Satellite Situation Reports. Other major references were publications of the NASA Historical Office, such as: Aeronautics and Astronautics 1916-1960; Aeronautical and Astronautical Events of 1961-1962; Aeronautics and Astronautics (yearly editions since 1963); and NASA's Pocket Statistics (published monthly.) The report is divided into projects within broad mission categories, with each project being treated chronologically. Mission results have been categorized as: successful (S); unsuccessful (U); or, partially successful (P). These are arbitrary classifications, made after a comparison of objectives and actual results.

Shuttle active thermal control system development testing. Volume 1: Overall summary

A summary is given of a series of thermal vacuum tests designed to support the development of the orbiter active thermal control system (ATCS) and included testing of a wide heat load range modular radiator system (MRS) configured to the March 1973 orbiter baseline system, a candidate weight reducing radiator/water cooling system, and a smaller radiator system with a high performance radiator coating. The tests verified the performance of the baseline system and obtained detailed design information for application of a wide heat load range modular radiator system to the orbiter. The two candidate ATCS weight reducing designs have undergone extensive concept verification testing and their system operating characteristics have been determined in sufficient detail for application to the orbiter. Design information has been obtained for an integrated radiator/water cooling system that provides for vehicle heat rejection as well as water management of the excess fuel cell water. Processing techniques have been developed and verified for the application of a high performance thermal control coating to large radiator areas subjected to a temperature range of -280 F to +160 F.

Laser geodynamic satellite thermal/optical/vibrational analyses and testing. Volume 1: Executive summary

The results of the LAGEOS Thermal/Optical/Vibrational Analyses and test program conducted for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration are presented. The purpose of this study is to verify, through analysis and test, that the MSFC LAGEOS design inherently provides a retroreflector thermal environment which maintains acceptable retroreflector internal thermal gradients. Acceptable thermal gradients are those which result in less than 50% degradation of optical performance from isothermal optical performance. This volume provides an executive summary of the study program. It summarizes the study objectives, the study approach, the principal assumptions, the type of basic data generated and the significant results.
