Mesoporous nickel-iron-manganese-alloy based metal/metal oxide composite thick film catalysts

Selective alloy corrosion is used to synthesize a robust and ultrafine mesoporous NiFeMn-based metal/metal oxide oxygen evolving catalyst with ligament and pore sizes in the range of 10 nm and a BET surface area of 43 m2/g. As an oxygen evolving catalyst, the mesoporous catalyst exhibits high stability (>264 hours) at a high current density (500 mA/cm2) with a low overpotential (360 mV) using a moderate electrolyte concentration (1 M KOH). The catalyst is made from non-precious metals and its fabrication is straight forward and directly applicable to large-scale synthesis.

Production of synthesis gas from natural gas with copper—iron—manganese oxide oxygen carriers/catalysts via partial oxidation and dry reforming processes

Materials, methods of making, and methods of providing a trimetallic oxygen carrier for converting methane containing fuel to synthesis gas. The trimetallic oxygen carrier comprises CuxFeyMnzOt, where CuxFeyMnzOt is a chemical composition with 0 < x ≤ 3 and 0 < y ≤ 3 and 0 < z ≤ 3 and, 0 < t ≤ 5. For example, CuxFeyMnzOt may be one of CuMnFeO 4 , CuFe 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 , CuFeMn 2 O 4 , CuFe 2 MnO 4 , or Cu impregnated on FerMnsOu, Fe impregnated on CurMnsOu, Mn impregnated on CurFesOu where r > 0, s > 0 and u > 0 and combinations thereof. Reaction of trimetallic CuxFeyMnzOt with methane generates a product stream comprising at least 50 vol. % CO and H 2 .

Secondary zinc-manganese dioxide batteries for high power applications

In an embodiment, a secondary Zn—MnO 2 battery comprises a battery housing, a MnO 2 cathode, a Zn anode, and an electrolyte solution. The MnO 2 cathode, the Zn anode, and the electrolyte solution are disposed within the battery housing, and the MnO 2 cathode comprises a MnO 2 cathode mixture and a current collector. The MnO 2 cathode mixture is in electrical contact with at least a portion of an outer surface of the current collector, and the MnO 2 cathode has a porosity of from about 5 vol. % to about 90 vol. %, based on the total volume of the MnO 2 cathode mixture of the MnO 2 cathode.

Study of high performance alloy electroforming

Nickel-manganese electroformed specimens and nickel-cobalt-manganese samples were heat treated at 343 C (650 F) for comparison of room temperature ductility with that observed for alloys heat treated at 315.6C (600 F). All heat treatments were for 24 hours. This heat treatment temperature increase generally did not result in significant improvements in ductility. However, increases in yield strength - with slight decreases in tensile strengths - were noted for the nickel-manganese and nickel-cobalt-manganese alloys. For the case of employing fairly high manganese contents in the electrolyte and countering ensuing high tensile stress in the alloy by saccharin additions to the bath, it was noted that nickel-manganese alloys with over 0.4% by weight manganese retained high ultimate and yield strengths after the 343 C (650 F) heat treatment for 24 hours. Elongations were still lower than desired. For alloys with less than 0.4% by weight manganese this heat treatment provided excellent ductility, but very significant reductions in ultimate and yield strengths were noted.
