An improved method for the design of multi-level phase holograms and a technique for direct fabrication by e-beam are presented.
For years NASA's use of electronic packaging and the associated manufacturing processes has.
This viewgraph presentation reviews the constraints, and concerns of spacecraft design, in particular spacecraft instrumentation design and the issues concerning space communication. The advantages and disadvantages of several communication options are reviewed. Ultimately there will be spacecraft communication not between boxes on spacecraft, but between spacecraft. The future of spacecraft communication is interplanetary networks.

Traditionally, the inverters used for distributed energy resources (DERs) including solar, energy storage and hydrogen fuel cells are grid following assets. Grid following assets track real power and reactive power setpoints decided by either a local autonomous controller or a remote controller like a microgrid controller. In the past five years, multiple challenges have increased the need for grid forming inverters that can interface to a wide variety of energy resources. These grid forming inverters are becoming critical assets for power systems to enable the replacement of existing rotational machines and provide grid services such as grid resiliency services and black-start. Hydrogen assets (fuel cells) have the potential to successfully replace rotating machines and act as voltage and frequency master by leveraging the long-duration and seasonal energy storage capabilities of hydrogen technologies. This poster presents the progress made in budget period 1 of the proposed work. We will leverage an existing ARIES platform experimental setup to run power-hardware-in-the-loop and controller-hardware-in-the-loop experiments with grid forming fuel cell inverters to develop and document the standardization requirements.

A general polymer-assisted spinodal decomposition strategy is used to prepare hierarchically porous sodium super ionic conductor (NASICON)-structured polyanion-type materials (e.g., Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , Li 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , K 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , Na 4 MnV(PO 4 ) 3 , and Na 2 TiV(PO 4 ) 3 ) in a tetrahydrofuran/ethanol/H 2 O synthesis system. Depending on the boiling point of solvents, the selective evaporation of the solvents induces both macrophase separation via spinodal decomposition and mesophase separation via self-assembly of inorganic precursors and amphiphilic block copolymers, leading to the formation of hierarchically porous structures. We find that the resulting hierarchically porous Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 possessing large specific surface area (≈77 m 2 g -1 ) and pore volume (≈0.272 cm 3 g -1 ) shows a high specific capacity of 117.6 mAh g -1 at 0.1 C achieving the theoretical value and a long cycling life with 77% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 5 C. This method presented here can open a facile avenue to synthesize other hierarchically porous polyanion-type materials.
Abstract With the growing amount of renewable energy sources, the grid has become responsible for accounting for intermittency and the flexibility needed to utilize dynamic sources. Expensive peaking plants and energy storage systems have been proposed as ways to mitigate those problems. There is a large group of energy consumers that can respond to grid conditions. Historically, these consumers have been residential and commercial users, but with modern innovations and practices, industrial consumers have the potential to become a major player in this space. Grid‐responsive smart manufacturing can be used to utilize modern tools in manufacturing innovation as enablers for grid response. These modern tools already exist but are not widely used for industrial grid‐side energy management. This article defines grid‐responsive smart manufacturing, identifies five major barriers to its widespread implementation, and portrays the path to getting industrial users to be key players in grid stability and flexibility.
