Electron-positron, parton-parton, and photon-photon production of τ -lepton pairs: Anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments spin effects

Anomalous contributions to the electric and magnetic dipole moments of the τ lepton from new physics scenarios have brought renewed interest in the development of new charge-parity violating signatures in τ -pair production at Belle II energies, and also at higher energies of the Large Hadron Collider and the Future Circular Collider. In this paper, we discuss the effects of spin correlations, including transverse degrees of freedom, in the τ -pair production and decay. These studies include calculating analytical formulas, obtaining numerical results, and building semirealistic observables sensitive to the transverse spin correlations induced by the dipole moments of the τ lepton. The effects of such anomalous contributions to the dipole moments are introduced on top of precision simulations of e − e + → τ − τ + , q q ¯ → τ − τ + and γ γ → τ − τ + processes, involving multibody final states. The τ decays are simulated along with radiative corrections, in particular electroweak box contributions of W W and Z Z exchanges are taken into account. Respective extensions of the Standard Model amplitudes and the reweighting algorithms are implemented into the Monte Carlo, which is used to simulate τ -pair production in e − e + collisions, and the aupinner program, which is used to reweight events with τ pair produced in p p collisions. Search for Heavy Neutral Leptons in Electron-Positron and Neutral-Pion Final States with the MicroBooNE Detector

We present the first search for heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) decaying into ν e + e − or ν π 0 final states in a liquid-argon time projection chamber using data collected with the MicroBooNE detector. The data were recorded synchronously with the NuMI neutrino beam from Fermilab’s main injector corresponding to a total exposure of 7.01 × 10 20 protons on target. We set upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the mixing parameter | U μ 4 | 2 in the mass ranges 10 ≤ m HNL ≤ 150 MeV for the ν e + e − channel and 150 ≤ m HNL ≤ 245 MeV for the ν π 0 channel, assuming | U e 4 | 2 = | U τ 4 | 2 = 0 . These limits represent the most stringent constraints in the mass range 35 < m HNL < 175 MeV and the first constraints from a direct search for ν π 0 decays. Imaging of Fibroblast Activation Protein Alpha Expression in a Preclinical Mouse Model of Glioma Using Positron Emission Tomography

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive glioma of the primary central nervous system. Due to the lack of effective treatment options, the prognosis for patients remains bleak. Fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAP), a 170 kDa type II transmembrane serine protease was observed to be expressed on glioma cells and within the glioma tumor microenvironment. To understand the utility of targeting FAP in this tumor type, the immuno-PET radiopharmaceutical [ 89 Zr]Zr-Df-Bz-F19 mAb was prepared and Lindmo analysis was used for its in vitro evaluation using the U87MG cell line, which expresses FAP endogenously. Lindmo analysis revealed an association constant (K a ) of 10 -8 M -1 and an immunoreactivity of 52%. Biodistribution studies in U87MG tumor-bearing mice revealed increasing radiotracer retention in tumors over time, leading to average tumor-to-muscle ratios of 3.1, 7.3, 7.2, and 8.3 at 2, 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively. Small animal PET corroborated the biodistribution studies; tumor-to-muscle ratios at 2, 24, 48, and 72 h were 2.0, 5.0, 6.1 and 7.8, respectively. Autoradiography demonstrated accumulated activity throughout the interior of FAP + tumors, while sequential tumor sections stained positively for FAP expression. Conversely, FAP - tissues retained minimal radioactivity and were negative for FAP expression by immunohistochemistry. These results demonstrate FAP as a promising biomarker that may be exploited to diagnose and potentially treat GBM and other neuroepithelial cancers.

Muon to Positron Conversion

Lepton-flavor violation (LFV) has been discovered in the neutrino sector by neutrino oscillation experiments. The minimal extension of the Standard Model (SM) to include neutrino masses allows LFV in the charged sector (CLFV) at the loop level, but at rates that are too small to be experimentally observed. Lepton-number violation (LNV) is explicitly forbidden even in the minimally extended SM, so the observation of an LNV process would be unambiguous evidence of physics beyond the SM. The search for the LNV and CLFV process μ−+N(A,Z)→e++N′(A,Z−2) (referred to as μ−→e+) complements 0νββ decay searches, and is sensitive to potential flavor effects in the neutrino mass-generation mechanism. A theoretical motivation for μ−→e+ is presented along with a review of the status of past μ−→e+ experiments and future prospects. Special attention is paid to an uncertain and potentially dominant background for these searches, namely, radiative muon capture (RMC). The RMC high energy photon spectrum is theoretically understudied and existing measurements insufficiently constrain this portion of the spectrum, leading to potentially significant impacts on current and future μ−→e+ work.
