High Energy Arcing Fault (HEAF) Photometrics 2022 Test Report

High Energy Arcing Faults (HEAFs) are hazardous events in which an electrical arc leads to the rapid release of energy in the form of heat, vaporized metal, and mechanical force. In Nuclear Power Plants, these events are often accompanied by loss of essential power and complicated shutdowns. To confirm the probabilistic risk analysis (PRA) methodology in NUREG/CR-6850, which was formulated based on limited observational data, the NRC led an international experimental campaign from 2014 to 2016. The results of these experiments uncovered an unexpected hazard posed by aluminum components in or near electrical equipment and the potential for unanalyzed equipment failures. Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), in support of the NRC work, collaborated with NIST, BSI, KEMA, and NRC to support the full-scale HEAF test campaign in 2022. SNL provided high speed visible and infrared video/data of ten tests that collected data from HEAFs originated on copper and aluminum buses inside switchgears and bus ducts. Part of the SNL scope was to place cameras with high-speed data collection at different vantage points within the test facility to provide NRC a more complete and granular view of the test events.

Hanford Site Bald Eagle Monitoring Report for Fiscal Year 2022

A national symbol of the United States, the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) plays an important role in the riverine ecosystem at the U. S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hanford Site. Historically, Bald Eagles have occupied the Hanford Site during the winter and early spring and have more recently remained through the nesting season. Monitoring is essential to maintain current biological information about Bald Eagle abundance and distribution on the Hanford Site, to ensure compliance with protection regulations, and to inform future protection and management efforts. This monitoring report provides an overview of Bald Eagle activity on the Hanford Site, along with Bald Eagle management guidelines and monitoring objectives between November 2021 and June 2022.

Batteries 2022 Annual Progress Report

This document summarizes the progress of VTO battery R&D projects supported during the fiscal year 2022. Its R&D focus was on the development of high-energy batteries for PEVs. The electrochemical energy storage roadmap describes ongoing and planned efforts to develop electrochemical storage technologies for EVs. To advance battery technology, which can in turn improve market penetration of PEVs, the program investigates various battery chemistries to overcome specific technical barriers, e.g., battery cost, performance, life (both the calendar life and the cycle life), its tolerance to abusive conditions, and its recyclability/sustainability.

SPRUCE Phospholipid Fatty Acid (PLFA) Abundances, August 2021-June 2022

This data set provides the results for phospholipid fatty acid analysis (PLFA) of peat samples collected from ambient plots in the SPRUCE experiment site, with experimental plot samples still being processed. The samples used to generate this data set were collected on 2021-08-23 and 2022-06-21. This data set includes abundances for groups of lipids indicating total biomass, fungi, Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, actinomycetes, and anaerobic bacteria. This data set contains one file in comma separate (*.csv) format. Samples: On each sampling date, cores extending to 200 cm were collected and subsampled at 10 cm intervals from 0 and 100 cm and 25 cm intervals below 100 cm depth in Plot 7 and 21. During the lipid extraction procedure, samples were pooled into the following depth increments in order to obtain sufficient material to achieve adequate lipid yield: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-50, 50-100, and 100-150, and 150-200 cm.

2022 Annual Technology Baseline (ATB) Cost and Performance Data for Electricity Generation Technologies

These data provide the 2022 update of the Electricity Annual Technology Baseline (ATB). Starting in 2015 NREL has presented the ATB, consisting of detailed cost and performance data, both current and projected, for electricity generation and storage technologies. The ATB products now include data (Excel workbook, Tableau workbooks, and structured summary csv files), as well as documentation and user engagement via a website, presentation, and webinar. Starting in 2021, the data are cloud optimized and provided in the OEDI data lake. The data for 2015 - 2020 are can be found on the NREL Data Search Page. The website documentation can be found on the ATB Website.
