Feature Based Qualification (FBQ) of Wire Arc Additively Manufactured (WAAM) 17-4PH Martensitic Stainless Steels

The Department of Defense (DOD) programs of records desire to reduce the time and cost of the development and delivery loop in metal additive manufacturing (AM), including establishing forwarded AM capabilities. The success of these efforts relies on a robust and qualified process. To achieve this, the United States Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Ground Vehicle Systems Center Materials Engineering (GVME) needs to be able to quickly evaluate, test, and develop feedstocks, processes, and parts. This report is directed towards demonstrating the need for a framework for metal AM processes, defining and exploring geometries for metal AM process qualification, testing resultant deposition, and delivering actionable data.

Production of Precursor Materials for the Development of Iron-Based Superconductor (IBS) Wire

The goal of this agreement will be devoted to the understanding of the radiation-induced defects landscape produced on irradiated bulk samples and of the intrinsic properties of the stoichometric phases with special regards to the difference interaction with multiple chemical additions and doping elements. Samples will be produced by ENEA Frascati per Fermilab specifications and then shipped to Fermilab for the characterization testing and the execution of irradiation experiments.

Pairing Simulation with Uncertainty Quantification for Exploding Wire Tests

In a 2025 SAND report by Carnes et al., it was observed that experimental and model results were not in agreement, especially peak voltage, and time of peak, for gold, with observed disagreements of up to 40%. In this work, we investigate whether other sources of uncertainty in the model can explain this disagreement between experiment and model.

External-Field-Induced Phase Transformation and Associated Properties in a Ni 50 Mn 34 Fe 3 In 13 Metamagnetic Shape Memory Wire

Metamagnetic shape memory alloys exhibit a series of intriguing multifunctional properties and have great potential for applications in magnetic actuation, sensing and magnetic refrigeration. However, the poor mechanical properties of these alloys with hardly any tensile deformability seriously limit their practical application. In the present work, we developed a Ni-Fe-Mn-In microwire that exhibits both a giant, tensile superelasticity and a magnetic-field-induced first-order phase transformation. The recoverable strain of superelasticity is more than 20% in the temperature range of 233–283 K, which is the highest recoverable strain reported heretofore in Ni-Mn-based shape memory alloys (SMAs). Moreover, the present microwire exhibits a large shape memory effect with a recoverable strain of up to 13.9% under the constant tensile stress of 225 MPa. As a result of the magnetic-field-induced first-order phase transformation, a large reversible magnetocaloric effect with an isothermal entropy change ΔS m of 15.1 J kg –1 K –1 for a field change from 0.2 T to 5 T was achieved in this microwire. The realization of both magnetic-field and tensile-stress-induced transformations confers on this microwire great potential for application in miniature multi-functional devices and provides an opportunity for multi-functional property optimization under coupled multiple fields.

Semiconductor power device including wire or ribbon bonds over device active region

A semiconductor power device including a base plate; an input lead; an output lead; a field effect transistor (FET) power die disposed over the base plate, wherein the FET power die includes a set of source fingers, a set of drain fingers, and a set of gate fingers disposed directly over an active region, wherein the gate fingers are configured to receive an input signal from the input lead, and wherein the FET power die is configured to process the input signal to generate an output signal at the drain fingers for routing to the output lead; and electrical conductors (wirebonds or ribbons) bonded to the source and/or drain directly over the active region of the FET power die. The electrical conductors produce additional thermal paths between the active region and the base plate for thermal management of the FET power die.

Fine wire manipulator

A system for manipulating a filament can include a filament supply from which a filament can be drawn, the filament supply being positioned along an axis, a vacuum manipulator assembly positioned along the axis, wherein the vacuum manipulator assembly is configured to engage the filament when a vacuum is drawn through the vacuum manipulator assembly and draw the filament along the axis to a workpiece, and a welding tool comprising a welding head positioned along the axis between the filament supply and the vacuum manipulator assembly, the welding tool being configured to weld the filament to the workpiece.
