Navigation in large information spaces represented as hypertext: A review of the literature

The problem addressed is the failure of information-space navigation tools when the space grows to large. The basic goal is to provide the power of the hypertext interface in such a way as to be most easily comprehensible to the user. It was determined that the optimal structure for information is an overlapping, simplified hierarchy. The hierarchical structure should be made obvious to the user, and many of the non-hierarchical links in the information space should either by eliminated, or should be de-emphasized so that the novice user is not confused by them. Only one of the hierarchies should be very simple.

Bibliographic search of the literature on lunar processing

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) search produced approximately 80 references. Most of these are available at the LPI. The product includes only the author, title, date, and reference. The earliest (Cooper et al., Certain ecological aspects of a closed lunar base, Rand Corp.) is dated 6 March 1958. The latest is a semi-popular article (Cole and Majdacic, Astronomy, vol. 16) produced last year. The early references tend to be reports of government sponsored engineering studies. The later are generally semi-popular and science press articles. These references will be obtained on disk from the LPI and can be converted into an ASCII file for access via IBM-compatible PCs.

Annotated bibliography of Software Engineering Laboratory literature

An annotated bibliography of technical papers, documents, and memorandums produced by or related to the Software Engineering Laboratory is given. More than 100 publications are summarized. These publications cover many areas of software engineering and range from research reports to software documentation. All materials have been grouped into eight general subject areas for easy reference: The Software Engineering Laboratory; The Software Engineering Laboratory: Software Development Documents; Software Tools; Software Models; Software Measurement; Technology Evaluations; Ada Technology; and Data Collection. Subject and author indexes further classify these documents by specific topic and individual author.

Probabilistic Structural Analysis Methods for select space propulsion system components (PSAM). Volume 3: Literature surveys and technical reports

The technical effort and computer code developed during the first year are summarized. Several formulations for Probabilistic Finite Element Analysis (PFEA) are described with emphasis on the selected formulation. The strategies being implemented in the first-version computer code to perform linear, elastic PFEA is described. The results of a series of select Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) component surveys are presented. These results identify the critical components and provide the information necessary for probabilistic structural analysis.

Probabilistic Structural Analysis Methods for select space propulsion system components (PSAM). Volume 2: Literature surveys of critical Space Shuttle main engine components

The technical effort and computer code development is summarized. Volume 2 is a summary of critical SSME components.

NAFTA literature at the International Trade Commission library

Most of the US official materials regarding NAFTA originate in the Executive Office of the President, especially the Office of the United States Trade Representative. These materials can be purchased from the U.S.G.P.O. There were also numerous Congressional hearings; many of which are probably now out of print, government agencies and the public are welcome to make copies of the ones in the collections of the ITC libraries. One of the most important sources of materials available in electronic format is the National Trade Data Base, produced by the Department of Commerce. This is a collection of at least 120 separate files containing documents relating to trade. It includes several files specifically on NAFTA, including the text of the treaty. It is available as two CD-ROM's, issued monthly, or on Internet.

A Reply to Diem et al.'s Commentary on a Recent Literature Contribution Focused on Urban-Induced Rainfall in Atlanta

A response is provided to Diem and colleagues discussion on the whether urbanization-enhanced precipitation should be maximized in the South-Southeast of Atlanta, Georgia as documented in Shepherd et al. (2003). Diem and colleagues have offered a critical response to Shepherd et al. (2002). The response herein offers both general and specific responses to issues raised by Diem and colleagues.

The Hindlimb Unloading Rat Model: Literature Overview, Comparison with Spaceflight Data, and Technique Update

The hindlimb unloading (HU) rodent model is used extensively to study the response of many physiological systems to certain aspects of spaceflight, as well as to disuse and recovery from disuse for Earth benefits. This chapter describes the evolution of HU, and is divided into three sections. The first section examines the characteristics of 1063 articles using or reviewing the HU model, published between 1976 and April 1, 2004. The characteristics include number of publications, journals, countries, major physiological systems, method modifications, species, gender, genetic strains and ages of rodents, experiment duration, and countermeasures. The second section provides a comparison of results between space flown and Hu animals from the 14-day Cosmos 2044 mission. The final section describes modifications to HU required by different experimental paradigms and a method to protect the tail harness for long duration studies. HU in rodents has enabled improved understanding of the responses of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, immune, renal, neural, metabolic, and reproductive systems to unloading and/or to reloading on Earth with implications for both long-duration human spaceflight and disuse on Earth.
