Automation Tool to Create Chronological AC Power Flow Cases for Large Interconnected Systems

Combining planning models with operational details allows the industry to proactively investigate future resource and load scenarios, rather than react to their implementation in real time. In this project, the following tasks are proposed. The methodologies we developed to resolve current challenges in importing and solving the chronological AC power flow is a three-stage process.

Mechanized X-ray inspection system for large tanks

Mechanized X ray equipment provides nondestructive inspection of structural weldments at various positions on very large tanks. It mechanizes the placement of the film, automates the identification process, adheres to safety requirements, and eliminates all the usual time-consuming manual operations in industrial radiography.

On stochastic control system design methods for weakly coupled large scale linear systems.

This paper considers the problem of decentralized control of two weakly coupled linear stochastic systems, using quadratic performance indices. The basic idea is to have each controller control independently his own system, based upon noisy measurements of his own output. To compensate for the effects of weak coupling upon the resultant performance, fake white plant noise is introduced to each system. The appropriate intensity of the fake plant noise is obtained through the solution of an off-line deterministic matrix optimal control problem. The effects of this design method upon the overall coupled system performance are analyzed as a function of the degree of intersystem coupling.

The engineering of large-scale systems.

The definition of the concept of what is a system in engineering is analyzed, and characteristics are suggested for consideration as a basis for such a concept. Simulation/symbolic models, structural/empirical models and descriptive/normative models are discussed as useful devices for systems design and analysis.
