AEROX: Computer program for transonic aircraft aerodynamics to high angles of attack. Volume 1: Aerodynamic methods and program users' guide

The AEROX program estimates lift, induced-drag and pitching moments to high angles (typ. 60 deg) for wings and for wingbody combinations with or without an aft horizontal tail. Minimum drag coefficients are not estimated, but may be input for inclusion in the total aerodynamic parameters which are output in listed and plotted formats. The theory, users' guide, test cases, and program listing are presented.

COMOC 2: Two-dimensional aerodynamics sequence, computer program user's guide

The COMOC finite element fluid mechanics computer program system is applicable to diverse problem classes. The two dimensional aerodynamics sequence was established for solution of the potential and/or viscous and turbulent flowfields associated with subsonic flight of elementary two dimensional isolated airfoils. The sequence is constituted of three specific flowfield options in COMOC for two dimensional flows. These include the potential flow option, the boundary layer option, and the parabolic Navier-Stokes option. By sequencing through these options, it is possible to computationally construct a weak-interaction model of the aerodynamic flowfield. This report is the user's guide to operation of COMOC for the aerodynamics sequence.

Earth resources technology system standalone software package: Description and user's guide

A user's guide and program description for the ERTS-B Stand-Alone Software Package is presented. This package was developed to compute the Keplerian elements at the descending node, the Brouwer mean elements at the node, the averaged Brouwer Mean Elements, and other orbital parameters for the orbits of the Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS). The typical input for the program is an ephemeris file which resulted from a definitive orbit generated over a two day arc using the Cowell option in the Definitive Orbit Determination System (DODS) or the Goddard Trajectory Determination System (GTDS).

Heat transfer in cooled guide vanes

A numerical study to determine the temperature distribution in the guide vanes of a radial inflow turbine is presented. A computer program has been developed to calculate the temperature distribution when the vanes are cooled internally using a combination of impingement and film cooling techniques. The study is based on the use of the finite difference method in a two dimensional heat conduction problem. The results are then compared to determine the best cooling configuration for a certain coolant to primary mass flow ratio.

Convolution using guided acoustooptical interaction in thin-film waveguides

Interaction of two antiparallel acoustic surface waves (ASW) with an optical guided wave has been investigated theoretically as well as experimentally to obtain the convolution of two ASW signals. The maximum time-bandwidth product that can be achieved by such a convolver is shown to be of the order of 1000 or more. The maximum dynamic range can be as large as 83 dB.

An investigation of temperature distribution in cooled guide vanes

A numerical study to determine the temperature distribution in the guide vane blades of a radial inflow turbine is presented. A computer program was developed which permits the temperature distribution to be calculated when the blade is cooled internally using a combination of impingement and film cooling techniques. The study is based on the use of the finite difference method in a two dimensional heat conduction problem. The results are then compared to determine the best cooling configuration for a certain coolant to primary mass flow ratio.

State criminal justice telecommunications (STACOM). Volume 4: Network design software user's guide

A user's guide to the network design program is presented. The program is written in FORTRAN V and implemented on a UNIVAC 1108 computer under the EXEC-8 operating system which enables the user to construct least-cost network topologies for criminal justice digital telecommunications networks. A complete description of program features, inputs, processing logic, and outputs is presented, and a sample run and a program listing are included.

Guide to a condensed form of NASTRAN

A limited capability form of NASTRAN level 16 is presented to meet the needs of universities and small consulting firms. The input cards, the programming language of the direct matrix abstraction program, the plotting, the problem definition, and the modules' diagnostic messages are described. Sample problems relating to the analysis of linear static, vibration, and buckling are included. This guide can serve as a handbook for instructional courses in the use of NASTRAN or for users who need only the capability provided by the condensed form.

Formulation of consumables management models. Volume 2: Mission planning processor user guide

A user guide for the MPP (Mission Planning Processor) is presented. The MPP is used in the evaluation of particular missions, with appropriate display and storage of related consumables data. Design goals are accomplished by the use of an on-line/demand mode computer terminal Cathode Ray Tube Display. The process is such that the user merely adds specific mission/flight functions to a skeleton flight and/or alters the skeleton. The skeleton flight includes operational aspects from prelaunch through ground support equipment connect after rollout as required to place the STS (Space Transportation System) in a parking orbit, maintain the spacecraft and crew for the stated on-orbit period and return.

Map-guided interpretation of remotely-sensed imagery

A map-guided approach to interpretation of remotely sensed imagery is described, with emphasis on applications involving continuous monitoring of predetermined ground sites. Geometric correspondence between a sensed image and a symbolic reference map is established in an initial stage of processing by adjusting parameters of a sensor model so that image features predicted from the map optimally match corresponding features extracted from the sensed image. Information in the map is then used to constrain where to look in an image and what to look for. With such constraints, previously intractable remote sensing tasks can become feasible, even easy, to automate. Four illustrative examples are given, involving the monitoring of reservoirs, roads, railroad yards, and harbors.
