Statistical uncertainties of the v n { 2 k } harmonics from Q cumulants

Analytic formulas to calculate statistical uncertainties of v n { 2 k } harmonics extracted from the Q cumulants are presented. The Q cumulants are multivariate polynomial functions of the weighted means of 2m-particle azimuthal correlations, $\langle\langle 2 m \rangle\rangle$. Variances and covariances of the $\langle\langle 2 m \rangle\rangle$ are included in the analytic formulas of the uncertainties that can be calculated simultaneously with the calculations of the v n { 2 k } harmonics. The calculations are performed using a simple toy model, which roughly simulates elliptic flow azimuthal anisotropy with magnitudes around 0.05. The results are compared with the results obtained by the many data subsets, and by the bootstrapping method. The first one is a common way of estimation of the statistical uncertainties of the v n { 2 k } harmonics in a real experiment. In order to increase precision in the measurement of the v n { 2 k } harmonics, a large number of 15 000 subsets and the same number of the resampling in the bootstrap method is used. Unlike the other ways of the analytic calculation of the v n { 2 k } statistical uncertainties, our proposal that includes the use of squared weights in the calculation of both the variances and covariances, gives the best agreement with the results obtained from the subsets and bootstrap method. Additionally, a recurrence equation between Q cumulants of any order is also presented.

Single-particle and dipole excitations in Co 62

An extensive study of the level structure of 62 Co has been performed following a complex multinucleon transfer reaction, 26 Mg( 48 Ca, 2α3npγ) 62 Co, at beam energies of 275, 290, and 320 MeV. The combination of the Gammasphere array, the fragment mass analyzer, and a focal-plane ionization chamber was used to identify and delineate excited levels in 62 Co. A considerable extension to the 62 Co level scheme is proposed with firm spin-parity values assigned on the basis of angular distribution and correlation analyses. Here, various level sequences built upon states of single-particle character have been observed, and an interpretation of these structures in the framework of the spherical shell model is presented. At moderate spins, two dipole bands have been observed and, based on their phenomenological study, a possible magnetic rotation character is suggested. However, theoretical calculations performed using the particle rotor model support magnetic rotation for only one of these dipole bands.

Impact of fragment formation on shear viscosity in the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition region

Within the improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model we follow the evolution of nuclear matter for planar Couette flow in a periodic box. We focus on the region of liquid-gas phase transition and extract the shear viscosity coefficient from the local stress tensor, directly following the viscosity definition. Here, by switching on and off the mean field and thus inducing the phase transition, we are able to observe the impact of clumping in the phase transition region on the viscosity.

Multinucleon transfer mechanism in Cf 250 + Th 232 collisions using the quantal transport description based on the stochastic mean-field approach

Production cross sections of heavy neutron-rich isotopes are calculated by employing quantal transport description in 250 Cf + 232 Th collisions. This quantal transport description is based on the stochastic mean-field approach, and it provides a microscopic approach beyond time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory to include mean-field fluctuations. Deexcitation of primary fragments is determined by employing the statistical GEMINI++ code. Here, calculations provide predictions for production cross sections of neutron rich transfermium isotopes without any adjustable parameters.

Neutron emission in ultraperipheral Pb-Pb collisions at s N N = 5.02 TeV

In ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) of relativistic nuclei without overlap of nuclear densities, the two nuclei are excited by the Lorentz-contracted Coulomb fields of their collision partners. In these UPCs, the typical nuclear excitation energy is below a few tens of MeV, and a small number of nucleons are emitted in electromagnetic dissociation (EMD) of primary nuclei, in contrast to complete nuclear fragmentation in hadronic interactions. The cross sections of emission of given numbers of neutrons in UPCs of 208 Pb nuclei at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=5.02 TeV were measured with the neutron zero degree calorimeters (ZDCs) of the ALICE detector at the LHC, exploiting a similar technique to that used in previous studies performed at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV. In addition, the cross sections for the exclusive emission of one, two, three, four, and five forward neutrons in the EMD, not accompanied by the emission of forward protons, and thus mostly corresponding to the production of 207,206,205,204,203 Pb, respectively, were measured for the first time. The predictions from the available models describe the measured cross sections well. These cross sections can be used for evaluating the impact of secondary nuclei on the LHC components, in particular, on superconducting magnets, and also provide useful input for the design of the Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh).

Impact of composition and symmetry energy on the temperature of quasiprojectiles simulated with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics

The equation of state describes the emergent physical properties of matter. Experimental data is needed to help constrain the equation of state for nuclear matter. These constraints can help distinguish between an “asy-stiff” and an “asy-soft” equation of state, which has astrophysical implications. One path to help constrain the models is to analyze the nuclear caloric curve; some experiments have shown dependence on neutron excess, and may thus be sensitive to the asymmetry. A difference in the caloric curve based on the asymmetry of the reconstructed quasiprojectile (QP) had been observed using 70 Zn on 70 Zn at 35 MeV/nucleon taken with the NIMROD array. Antisymmetrized molecular dynamics calculations were performed for the same system and deexcited with gemini++. Both Gogny (asy-soft) and Gogny-as (asy-stiff) data sets were generated. The particles were then filtered based on detector geometric acceptance and thresholds. From the accepted particles, the excitation energy and temperature were calculated in the same way as for experimental data. Additionally, filter effects on the observed nuclear caloric curves were investigated. A tendency for the asy-stiff nuclear caloric curves to have higher temperatures than their asy-soft counterparts was observed for a number of probes. In addition, some probes may show sensitivity to the reconstructed composition of the QP, but this is inconclusive due to high statistical fluctuations and a large dependence on the exact method of event selection.

Measurement of flow coefficients in high-multiplicity 𝑝 + Au, 𝑑 + Au, and 3 He + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV

Flow coefficients (𝑣 2 and 𝑣 3 ) are measured in high-multiplicity 𝑝 + Au, 𝑑 + Au, and 3 He + Au collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV using the STAR detector. The measurements utilize two-particle correlations with a pseudorapidity requirement of |𝜂| < 0.9 and a pair gap of |Δ⁢𝜂| > 1.0. The primary focus is on analysis methods, particularly the subtraction of nonflow contributions. Four established nonflow subtraction methods are applied to determine 𝑣 𝑛 , validated using the HIJING event generator. 𝑣 𝑛 values are compared across the three collision systems at similar multiplicities; this comparison cancels the final-state effects and isolates the impact of initial geometry. While 𝑣 2 values show differences among these collision systems, 𝑣 3 values are largely similar, consistent with expectations of subnucleon fluctuations in the initial geometry. The ordering of 𝑣 𝑛 differs quantitatively from previous measurements using two-particle correlations with a larger rapidity gap, which, according to model calculations, can be partially attributed to the effects of longitudinal flow decorrelations. As a result, the prospects for future measurements to improve our understanding of flow decorrelation and subnucleonic fluctuations are also discussed.

Hot and dense quark-gluon plasma thermodynamics from holographic black holes

We present new results on the equation of state and transition line of hot and dense strongly interacting QCD matter, obtained from a bottom-up Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton holographic model. We considerably expand the previous coverage in baryon densities in this model by implementing new numerical methods to map the holographic black hole solutions onto the QCD phase diagram. We are also able to obtain, for the first time, the first-order phase transition line in a wide region of the phase diagram. Comparisons with the most recent lattice results for the QCD thermodynamics are also presented.

Novel cross section ratios as possible signals of saturation in ultraperipheral collisions

We propose new cross section ratios in ultraperipheral A + A and p + A collisions (UPCs) as a potential experimental signal of saturation physics. We consider the ratio R 1 of elastic vector meson photoproduction cross section to the inclusive hadron or jet photoproduction cross section. The ratio can be measured in the γ + A and γ + p collisions taking place in the UPCs. We label the ratios R 1 ( A ) and R 1 ( p ) , respectively. Constructing the double ratio R UPC ( A ) = R 1 ( A ) / R 1 ( p ) , and performing a small- x calculation both in the quasiclassical approximation and by including small- x evolution, we observe that R UPC ( A ) exhibits a markedly different dependence on the nuclear atomic number inside and outside the saturation region. This result indicates that R UPC ( A ) and R 1 ( A ) measurements in UPCs may help in the experimental searches for the evidence of saturation physics. Global Polarization of Ξ and Ω Hyperons in Au + Au Collisions at s N N = 200 GeV

Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV. The measurements of the $Ξ^{-}$ and $\overline{Ξ}^{+}$ hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over $Ξ^{-}$ and $\overline{Ξ}^{+}$, is measured to be $\langle{P_{Ξ}}\rangle$=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The $\langle{P_{Ξ}}\rangle$ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The $\langle{P_{Ξ}}\rangle$ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. Finally, the global polarization of Ω, $\langle{P_{Ω}}\rangle$=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor $C_{ΩΛ}=1$.
