Calculation of the absorbed dose and dose equivalent induced by medium energy neutrons and protons and comparison with experiment

Monte Carlo calculations have been carried out to determine the absorbed dose and dose equivalent for 592-MeV protons incident on a cylindrical phantom and for neutrons from 580-MeV proton-Be collisions incident on a semi-infinite phantom. For both configurations, the calculated depth dependence of the absorbed dose is in good agreement with experimental data.

Equivalence of time-multiplexed and frequency-multiplexed signals in digital communications.

In comparing different techniques for multiplexing N binary data signals into a single channel, time-division multiplexing (TDM) is known to have a theoretic efficiency of 100 percent (neglecting sync power) and thus seems to outperform frequency-division multiplexing systems (FDM). By considering more general FDM systems, we will show that both TDM and FDM are equivalent and have an efficiency of 100 percent. The difference between the systems is in the multiplexing and demultiplexing subsystems, but not in the performance or in the generated waveforms.

Equivalence of quadratic performance criteria.

Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived in terms of system parameters and quadratic weighting matrices for two quadratic cost functionals that are defined to be equivalent if they generate the same optimal control law. The derived conditions lie between the conditions of Tanaka and Asai (1971) and those of Kreindler and Hedrick (1970). Sufficient conditions for a vector valued function to attain an infimum are stated.

Wind Tunnel Test of Low Boom Equivalent Body at Mach 4

A body of revolution, representing the equivalent area distribution of a low boom aircraft design cruising at 24,384 meters at a Mach number of 4, was tested to determine whether its theoretical sonic boom characteristics could be experimentally verified. Results indicate that the essential features of the ground signature are well predicted.
