As renewable resources are increasingly penetrating power systems, energy storage systems (ESSs) become essential in providing both energy arbitrage and ancillary services. Because of its high flexibility, ESSs have been taken into account in the daily operation of the bulk power system in many places. This paper proposes a general framework in the current electricity market environment to help system operators model the participation of multi-type ESSs and evaluate the performance of both energy arbitrage and reserve provision. We discuss different levels of ESSs' flexibility in providing ancillary services and also consider a deliberate and practical implementation of the modeling. This framework can be seamlessly integrated into the daily market operation without sacrificing computational efficiency. Numerical experiments validate the efficacy of the proposed framework and show that ESSs possess excellent potential in providing ancillary services for the bulk power system.
The goal of this work is to study the way student designers use design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) rules or heuristics. It can be challenging for novice designers to create successful designs for additive manufacturing (AM), due to its recent surge in popularity and lack of formal education or training. A study was carried out to investigate the way novices apply DfAM heuristics when they receive them at different points in the design process. A design problem was presented to students, and three different groups of student participants were given a lecture on DfAM heuristics at three different points in the design process: before the initial design, between the initial design and redesign, and after the redesign. The novelty and quality of each of the resulting designs were evaluated. Results indicate that although the DfAM heuristics lecture had no impact on the overall quality of the designs generated, participants who were given the heuristics lecture after the initial design session produced designs that were better-suited for 3D printing in the second phase of the design activity. However, receiving this additional information appears to prevent students from creatively iterating upon their initial designs, as participants who received heuristic information between the design sessions experienced a decrease in novelty between the two sessions. Additionally, receiving the heuristics lecture increased all students’ perceptions of their ability to perform DfAM-related tasks. Furthermore, these results validate the practicality of design heuristics in lecture form as AM training tools while also emphasizing the importance of iteration in the design process.

This study presents an advancement in high-temperature Raman spectroscopy, specifically for analyzing molten materials. It introduces an approach by integrating a fiber-optic Raman probe with a copper block protection system designed to endure extreme thermal conditions. The copper block features an open port designed to accommodate an external telescope with a 3 cm focal length, enabling Raman spectra collection in challenging high-temperature environments. A built-in gas channel ensures a continuous flow of argon gas to prevent flux intrusion. The robust copper block acts as a reliable shield, safeguarding the fiber-optic Raman probe within molten materials. This enhancement maintains the probe's integrity and significantly improves its resilience, making it ideal for rigorous investigations of molten substances. This advancement is particularly relevant in metallurgy, where flux materials impact production quality and efficiency. The ability to acquire Raman signals under elevated thermal conditions offers opportunities for studying molecular dynamics, compositional changes, and chemical interactions within molten substances. This introduced direct immersion probing technique has implications, benefiting both scientific and industrial fields. It holds promise for advancing research and exploration in various contexts, from fundamental scientific inquiries to practical applications in metallurgical processes, where flux materials are critical for optimizing production quality and efficiency. Furthermore, this approach enhances the capabilities of high-temperature Raman spectroscopy, making it a valuable tool for investigating molten materials and their properties in diverse settings.

In this work, we revisit and elaborate on twisted holography for AdS _3 × S^3 × X 3 × S 3 × X with X= T^4 X = T 4 , K3, with a particular focus on K3. We describe the twist of supergravity, identify the corresponding (generalization of) BCOV theory, and enumerate twisted supergravity states. We use this knowledge, and the technique of Koszul duality, to obtain the N → ∞ N → ∞ , or planar, limit of the chiral algebra of the dual CFT. The resulting symmetries are strong enough to fix planar 2 and 3-point functions in the twisted theory or, equivalently, in a 1/4-BPS subsector of the original duality. This technique can in principle be used to compute corrections to the chiral algebra perturbatively in 1/N 1 / N .
