Updated constraints from electric dipole moments in the MSSM with R-parity violation

We revisit the electric dipole moments (EDMs) of quarks and leptons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with trilinear R-parity violation (RPV). In this framework, EDMs are induced at the two-loop level via RPV interactions. We perform a comprehensive recalculation of several classes of Barr-Zee type diagrams in a general Rξ gauge. While we find general agreement with previous analytic results in the literature, our work provides a valuable independent cross-check of the complicated calculations. We also point out some subtleties in the intermediate steps and in the choice of the flavor basis for the numerical evaluation of the expressions. By confronting the theoretical predictions with the latest experimental limits on EDMs, we derive updated constraints on combinations of RPV couplings. We highlight an approximate, testable correlation between the proton and neutron EDM that emerges within the considered class of RPV models, offering a distinctive signature for future EDM experiments.

Exploring the phenomenology of weak adjoint scalars in minimal R -symmetric models

We examine the phenomenology of the scalar fields in weak and Higgs sectors of minimal R-symmetric models, in particular the ‘swino’ and ‘sbino’, the scalar partners to the chiral fields that marry the electroweak gauge bosons in Dirac gaugino models. These fields are in adjoint representations of SU(2) and U(1) and have both CP-even and CP-odd components. The interactions of these new states are summarized, and decay widths are computed analytically to one loop order. We discuss the tree level contributions of these new states to the mass spectrum of MSSM sfermions. We also explore production cross sections and decay signatures at colliders for several chosen benchmarks. We find that large regions of parameter space are unconstrained by present collider data.

Neutrinoless double beta decay via light neutralinos in R-parity violating supersymmetry

We perform a study of neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay mediated by the lightest neutralino of arbitrary mass in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) under the presence of R-parity violating trilinear interactions. In this scenario, the exchange of the lightest neutralino can result in 0νββ decay of either long-range or short-range behaviour, depending on the neutralino mass. Using nuclear matrix elements calculated in the interacting boson model, we use an interpolation between the long- and short-range behaviours with an approximate formula. The non-observation of 0νββ decay is then used to place constraints on the supersymmetry parameter space, compatible with constraints from collider experiments. We compare these constraints to bounds from pion decays, CKM unitarity and big bang nucleosynthesis.

Exploring color-octet scalar parameter space in minimal R-symmetric models

In this work we study the collider phenomenology of color-octet scalars (sgluons) in minimal supersymmetric models endowed with a global continuous R symmetry. We systematically catalog the significant decay channels of scalar and pseudoscalar sgluons and identify novel features that are natural in these models. These include decays in nonstandard diboson channels, such as to a gluon and a photon; three-body decays with considerable branching fractions; and long-lived particles with displaced vertex signatures. We also discuss the single and pair production of these particles and show that they can evade existing constraints from the Large Hadron Collider, to varying extents, in large regions of reasonable parameter space. We find, for instance, that a 725 GeV scalar and a 350 GeV or lighter pseudoscalar can still be accommodated in realistic scenarios.

Compressed Liquid (${{p}}$-${{\rho}}$-${{T}}$) Measurements of trans-1,2-Dichloroethene [R-1130(E)]

Pressure-density-temperature (${{p}}$-${{\rho}}$-${{T}}$) data for the refrigerant R-1130(E) (trans-1,2-dichloroethene) were measured in the compressed liquid phase using an automated vibrating-tube densimeter. Overall, the measurements covered temperatures from 270 K to 410 K and pressures from 0.5 MPa to 30 MPa. Relative combined, expanded (95% confidence level) uncertainties ranged from approximately 0.05% to 0.06%. Here, we present measurement results, along with comparisons to available literature data and to a generalized extended corresponding states model.

Protein–protein interactions between tenascin-R and RPTPζ/phosphacan are critical to maintain the architecture of perineuronal nets

Neural plasticity, the ability to alter the structure and function of neural circuits, varies throughout the age of an individual. The end of the hyperplastic period in the central nervous system coincides with the appearance of honeycomb-like structures called perineuronal nets (PNNs) that surround a subset of neurons. PNNs are a condensed form of neural extracellular matrix that include the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan and extracellular matrix proteins such as aggrecan and tenascin-R (TNR). PNNs are key regulators of developmental neural plasticity and cognitive functions, yet our current understanding of the molecular interactions that help assemble them remains limited. Disruption of Ptprz1, the gene encoding the receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase RPTPζ, altered the appearance of nets from a reticulated structure to puncta on the surface of cortical neuron bodies in adult mice. The structural alterations mirror those found in Tnr -/- mice, and TNR is absent from the net structures that form in dissociated cultures of Ptprz1 -/- cortical neurons. These findings raised the possibility that TNR and RPTPζ cooperate to promote the assembly of PNNs. Here, we show that TNR associates with the RPTPζ ectodomain and provide a structural basis for these interactions. Furthermore, we show that RPTPζ forms an identical complex with tenascin-C, a homolog of TNR that also regulates neural plasticity. Finally, we demonstrate that mutating residues at the RPTPζ–TNR interface impairs the formation of PNNs in dissociated neuronal cultures. Overall, this work sets the stage for analyzing the roles of protein–protein interactions that underpin the formation of nets.

Bringing forward the development of battery cells for automotive applications: Perspective of R&D activities in China, Japan, the EU and the USA

The recent development of high-performance Li-ion battery cells has sparked intensive revolutions in our society. After enabling the wireless communication, Li-ion batteries are paving the way towards a full transition to electromobility. However, the search and need for batteries with improved performance and safety at reduced cost is still ongoing. Therefore, substantial economical efforts are put in place. The 12th edition of the annual International Conference on Advanced Lithium Batteries for Automobile Applications (ABAA-12), held in October 2019 in Ulm, Germany, has been an insightful meeting during which policy makers from China, Germany, Japan, the European Commission and the USA provided an in-depth description of their respective visions on how to bring forward this technology. In this paper, we aim to give insights about the presented R&D trends and the current penetration of electric vehicles in the mass market.

Interplaying mechanisms behind inclusive jet R and extraction of jet energy loss distributions

The observed inclusive jet suppression in heavy-ion collisions at LHC has a very weak p T dependence over a large range of p T =50–1000 GeV and is almost independent of the colliding energy, though the initial energy density of the bulk medium has increased from √s=2.76 to 5.02 TeV by about 20%. This interesting phenomenon is investigated in the linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model for jet propagation in an event-by-event 3+1D hydro background. We show that the p T dependence of jet R AA is determined by the initial spectrum in p+p collisions and p T dependence of jet energy loss. Furthermore, jet energy loss distributions for inclusive jet and γ-jet at both LHC energies are extracted directly from experimental data through the state-of-art Bayesian analysis. Additionally, the averaged jet energy loss has a weak p T dependence and the scaled jet energy loss distributions have a large width, both of which are consistent with the LBT simulations and indicate that jet quenching is caused by only a few out-of-cone jet medium scatterings.

Synthesis and characterization of the actinide tosylimido complexes [K(18-crown-6)][An(NSO 2 -$p$-tolyl)(NR 2 ) 3 ] (An = U, Th; R = SiMe 3 )

Reaction of 1 equiv of KN(H)Ts (Ts = p-MeC 6 H 4 SO 2 ) with the actinide metallacycles, [An IV (CH 2 SiMe 2 NSiMe 3 )(NR 2 ) 2 ] (An = U, Th; R = SiMe 3 ), in the presence of 18-crown-6, affords the imido complexes, [K(18-crown-6)][An IV (NTs)(NR 2 ) 3 ] (An = U, 1; Th, 2), in modest to moderate yields after work-up. Both complexes were characterized by X-ray crystallography and 1 H and 13 C{ 1 H} NMR spectroscopies. To our knowledge, they represent the first sulfonylimido complexes reported for the f elements. Finally, they are also a rare example of an isostructural set of actinide imido complexes.

A theoretical study of the bonding properties of R 4 Sb 3 compounds

Here, this study investigates the electronic structure and bonding properties of rare-earth antimonide compounds, specifically Yb 4 Sb 3 and La 4 Sb 3 , utilizing density functional theory calculations. The analysis reveals that Yb 4 Sb 3 exhibits a predominantly ionic character whereas La 4 Sb 3 displays a greater degree of covalent bonding. Moreover, the presence of divalent ytterbium leads to p-type conduction at high temperatures in Yb 4 Sb 3 . Conversely, La 4 Sb 3 displays n-type conduction because of a larger electronic transfer from the rare-earth metal towards antimony. These findings provide valuable insights into the structural and electronic properties that govern the performance of R 4 Sb 3 compounds, contributing to the development of advanced materials for thermoelectric energy conversion.
